First comes love, then comes marriage — but moving in is optional for many stars.
Kourtney Kardashian revealed in October 2022 that she and husband Travis Barker still weren’t living together, despite tying the knot five months earlier.
“We want our kids to also feel really comfortable and they have both lived in their homes their whole lives for the most part, and they each have their rooms and we are a block away,” Kardashian explained on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, though she added that “there will” eventually be one house for her blended family. “When the kids are at their dad’s house, I stay at [Travis’] house and there’s still nights when we’ll stay at each other’s houses in between.”
Different addresses didn’t stop the then-newlyweds from developing routines just like every other couple. “I get up at six in the morning and I carpool every morning, and then I go straight to his house and have matcha. He has it ready for me,” she explained. “We have, like, a thing and he comes over every night no matter what. He comes over here and kisses me, whether it’s midnight and he is getting back from the studio or whatever.”
Barker and Kardashian eventually moved in together after welcoming son Rocky Thirteen in November 2023.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk
The couple — who tied the knot in September — waited one year before they finally moved in together. “All my married friends say that the way we live sounds ideal and we shouldn’t change a thing,” the Oscar winner told the Sunday Times in June 2019.

Despite house hunting together on the first season of The Kardashians, the twosome waited to move in together out of concern for their children. “We want our kids to also feel really comfortable and they have both lived in their homes their whole lives for the most part, and they each have their rooms and we are a block away,” Kardashian said in an October 2022 podcast interview.

Ashley Graham and Justin Ervin
Due to their busy schedules, Graham and Ervin have spent most of their marriage based in cities on opposite sides of the U.S.. “We just meet in L.A. or New York. We meet in Paris, Miami. It’s pretty sexy,” Graham gushed about their arrangement.

Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton
Bonham Carter and Burton — who dated from 2001 until December 2014 and share son Billy and daughter Nell — lived in adjoining houses in London for much of their relationship. “I did not have room to house children, put it that way,” she told The Times in November 2019, about their unusual arrangement. I lived in a cottage. And I did always think, ‘God, wouldn’t it be ideal if Mister Right lived next door because then I’d have room to put the bedrooms in?’ So what was Tim’s house is basically the family house and I kept my bedroom and my kitchen.”

The polyamorous couple bought a house in Poughkeepsie, New York, shortly after they got married in March 2018, but they didn’t actually live together until the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020.

Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo
After falling in love on The Bachelorette in 2017 and tying the knot two years later, Lindsay revealed in October 2020 that the pair had a “long-distance marriage” as a result of their respective careers. “I didn’t move to L.A. because I just love the city,” the former Bachelorette said during an appearance on her husband’s “Dr. Abs Healthcast” podcast. “You’re focusing on your practice [in Miami] and building it to a place you want it to be, and I am here in L.A. working … and we’re doing this to eventually bring ourselves together. We have a timeline for ourselves. We know where we’re going, we know where we’re headed, and we know what we’re trying to build as Abasolos.”
In April 2021, Abasolo made the move to the West Coast to join his wife, and the pair quickly moved in together.
Us Weekly confirmed in January 2024 that Abasolo filed for divorce after four years of marriage.

Chynna Phillips and Billy Baldwin
Phillips explained in a November 2024 YouTube video that she and husband Baldwin do not live in the same house.
“Billy and I are sort of in this new kind of arrangement that is actually really working for me. I don’t know if it’s working for Billster, but I’m very happy with what we’re doing,” she said. “I just really felt like, where in the Bible does it say that I have to live under the same roof 24/7 with my husband? Can you please find me that scripture?”
Phillips and Baldwin still meet up for date nights, therapy sessions and more.
“We enjoy each other’s company. That’s what is so hard to articulate to people: that we’re madly in love, we really enjoy being around one another, we cherish our marriage, we don’t ever want to separate,” she explained. “We just need a little bit of time apart because we are sort of an allergy to one another. And it’s OK, I’m sure lots of different couples are allergies to each other.”
