“I was amazed by the level of complexity”: Irina Shayk in a dress made of 84 thousand Swarovski crystals appeared at the Met Gala 2024

The 38-year-old top model attended one of the most high-profile events of the year. Irina Shayk chose a sparkling image in every sense.

The annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute in New York City took place at night. Irina was one of the most luxuriously dressed stars of the Met Gala 2024. On the red carpet, she supported the sheer trend in a silver floor-length dress with thin straps and a deep neckline. The form-fitting outfit emphasized Shayk’s slender figure.

The top model’s dress has a special story. It is made of invisible transparent mesh, which was hand-embroidered with Swarovski crystals. This required 84 thousand stones. Six craftsmen worked on the dress for 200 hours. The model’s waist was cinched with a corset encrusted with rhinestones, complete with a ribbon that went down to the floor. The fabric sparkled and shimmered in the spotlight. “When I first saw the sketches, I was amazed at the level of complexity,” Irina noted.

The look was complemented by white gold and diamond jewelry – massive earrings, a luxurious necklace, and a whole string of bracelets on each wrist. As they say, for Met Gala you can have the best of everything at once. Irina had glamorous makeup with a smoky easy effect and rich wine-colored lipstick. Her hair was pulled up into a high bun.

This year’s Costume Institute exhibition is called “Sleeping Beauties: Awakening Fashion.” It is divided into three subcategories: land, sea, and sky. Swarovski creative director Giovanna Engelbert admitted that she drew inspiration for the catwalk star’s dress from air. “The timeless beauty of clear crystal and its radiance inspired an iconic look that perfectly captures the delicate yet powerful essence of air,” Giovanna said.

Irina worked on the look with the designer, and Engelbert was thrilled that the process was collaborative. “Working with Irina was joyful and so much fun. Her input in the first fitting shaped the look’s vision of strength, empowerment, sensuality and undeniable glamour,” Vogue quotes Giovanna as saying.
