Pub responds to backlash after charging customers £25 full English breakfast

A popular pub has responded to criticism over the price that they charge for a classic Full English breakfast.

The Cow Shed, located in Ospringe, Kent, has released a statement after an uproar on social media when people found out about the hefty cost of their staple morning meal.

The pub caused quite the stir online when customers discovered that a variation of an all you can eat Full English at the establishment cost £25.

One user highlighted that the pub was in Faversham, ‘not fancy Mayfair’, but as the comments came rolling in online, the pub initially stayed quiet about the situation.

Another user even joked that they would need a GoFundMe to afford the ‘lavish breakfast’ on offer at the British pub.

But now, it seems like enough is enough as the Cow Shed has finally hit back with an explanation behind their decision in a statement to LADbible.

Justin, Emma & Charlotte, the family behind the pub, clarified: “Yes, it’s definitely aimed for those who want to indulge, who are comfortable in spending the extra cash to immerse themselves in our quality ‘ALL YOU CAN EAT’ breakfast.”

A family run establishment, they further said that ‘one of the main reasons’ they started the pub in the first place was due to the fact that their ‘celebrations and commiserations tend to be based around food’.

The explanation went on about the inspiration behind the pub, saying: “When venturing out, rather than hosting at home, we often felt there was some sort of compromise. So hence The Cow Shed in its current guise was born.”

If you were to bring your little ones for breakfast on the weekend, those under five eat for free while those under 12 get a decent half price deal.

Adults will pay £13.50 for their Full English on its own, half the price of the all-you-can-eat offer if that takes your fancy.

Despite the cost of a bottomless breakfast, customers have taken to TripAdvisor in the past to praise the ‘amazing’ food on offer at the pub.

The Cow Shed even boasts a four-and-a-half star rating on TripAdvisor, with other more luxurious restaurants with the same rating charging more than double the price for a Full English.

They knew of this too, saying in their 800-word response: “Think about it, if you were to frequent any establishment that serves a certain level of quality, with that content having only one serving of each, you’d soon be breaking the £20 mark.”

Wetherspoons worker reveals truth about how breakfast staple is prepared

Wetherspoons worker reveals truth about how breakfast staple is prepared

What did you expect for the price anyway?

A Wetherspoons employee has shocked punters across the country after revealing how one of the pub’s breakfast staples is prepared.

Let’s face it, no one is heading down to their local Wetherspoons pub and expecting to be served Michelin-quality food.

We’re not even expecting fine dining, just a quick meal and pint for a decent price.

And yet people still find themselves stunned to discover what actually happens to our food before it’s slapped onto those famous blue-and-white plates.

If you’re a ‘Spoons regular, you’ll certainly be aware by now that most of the food served is often cooked in the microwave, fryer or grill – excluding the pizzas, which are arguably one of the ‘freshest items’ on the menu.

However, the same cannot be said for the poached eggs you receive on your cooked breakfast or Eggs Benedict – which actually arrive in the kitchen already pre-poached.

This actually makes sense when you think about how perfectly round and uniform every poached egg to have ever come out of a ‘Spoons kitchen looks.

The trade secret was shared online by TikTok user @dobbysc00chie back in 2022, who made a viral post detailing the awkward moments when she’d have to explain the pub had sold out of poached eggs.

“Me explaining to a customer that they can’t have poached eggs as they’re pre-poached and are out of stock,” she captioned the video.

“I actually never told customers they were pre-poached, I just flat out said no, or offered fried eggs instead.”

As someone who spent their university days working in the local Wetherspoons, I can confirm this piece of information is true.

There is truly nothing more difficult than trying to keep a straight face while explaining to a customer that poached eggs are sold out but they can have either fried or scrambled eggs instead.

Viewer reactions to the video stemmed from completely baffled to horrified, with one person questioning: “How tf do u get pre poached eggs.”

“The highlight of working a spoons breakfast shift,” another person joked, as someone else revealed they would tell customers ‘the poacher is broken’ and hope for the best.

The TikToker isn’t the only Wetherspoons employee to speak openly about the unfortunate egg cooking process, with Joe Oxley previously telling The Sun that he and his co-workers even nicknamed the microwave ‘chef Mike’ when it came to heating things up.

Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon told LADbible: “Wetherspoon uses 100 percent British Lion Brand free range eggs in its breakfasts, including poached eggs.

“The eggs used in our Eggs Benedict, Miners Benedict and Mushroom Benedict are pre-poached to ensure quality and consistency

“More than 1.5 million Benedict meals are served across the pubs each year.”

Gordon Ramsay accused of 'daylight robbery' over £19 full English breakfast compared to 'service station' food

Gordon Ramsay accused of ‘daylight robbery’ over £19 full English breakfast compared to ‘service station’ food

“Where’s the other half of the breakfast?”

Gordon Ramsay has come under fire for a less than impressive full English breakfast served at one of his restaurants.

Celebrity chef Ramsay owns several eateries around the world but it seems that, according to one customer of his Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, his fry up breakfast is a little lacklustre.

Known for his foul-mouthed tirades during his TV appearances, Ramsay has been on the receiving end of some criticism after Twitter/X user @silviotattiscon posted a picture of what looks like a rather disappointing full English.

The meal, priced at £19, appears to consist of one sausage, two poached eggs, beans, one tomato, one mushroom, two bacon rashers and one single, lonely hash brown.

“Bread Street Kitchen, a Gordon Ramsey [sic] restaurant, yours for £19,” the customer captioned the shot.

The picture sparked some online outrage, with many claiming they could do better than Ramsay’s dish and others comparing the fry up to ‘motorway service station’ food.

“I could do better than that. £19 is daylight robbery,” one person commented, with another noting: “Our local cafe & sandwich shop gives you double that for half that price.”

Many insisted the poster had been ‘robbed’ for ‘dreadful’ and ‘massively overpriced’ food, with one user jokingly asking: “Where’s the other half of the breakfast?”

While it seems that Ramsay’s fry up has left some customers disappointed, the chef himself has recently shared some pearls of wisdom to avoid a terrible experience next time you’re dining out.

The Hell’s Kitchen star was adamant you should always be wary of the special board, particularly if there are several options on there.

“Specials are there to disappear throughout the evening. When they list 10 specials that’s not special,” Ramsay said.

He also said to take any ‘suspicious boasts’ about the quality of the food with a pinch of salt. Buzzwords like ‘famous’ or ‘best in the country’ on any restaurant’s menu always set Ramsay’s alarm bells off and leave him wondering: “Who said that? Who named that?”

The chef then revealed a lesser-known trick to get a decent quality wine without breaking the bank whilst you’re eating out.

Ramsay suggested to ask for the ‘bin end’ list, which normally consists of bottles with scratched labels or vintages that haven’t sold well.

If you opt for a bottle of whatever wine is recommended and priced under $30 (about £24), this should guarantee you to get an under appreciated drink without going bankrupt.

Brits urged to try ‘authentic’ beer after Birra Moretti and Madri revelation

Brits urged to try ‘authentic’ beer after Birra Moretti and Madri revelation

Not everyone knows the story behind Birra Moretti and Madri

Tom Earnshaw

Brits shocked after discovering the truth behind their pints of Birra Moretti and Madri have been urged to try an ‘authentic’ beer to get over the revelation.

Madri and Birra Moretti are two of the more popular, premium priced lagers you can buy on draught in pretty much every pub or bar in the United Kingdom.

If there’s not one, you’re almost bound to find the other.

But the truth behind the two tipples is a little different to what you might be thinking.

No, they’re not brewed in the heart of Spain and Italy.

Instead, we need to travel to sunny Manchester and Tadcaster, right here in Blighty.

Despite research showing that thousands of Brits favoured ‘foreign’ pints like Madri and Moretti, the truth is that they’re actually brewed on British soil.

Don’t be too annoyed if you were duped. After all, clever advertising has played a huge part in making us presume that the nice cold beer we’re drinking came a long way before ending up in a pint glass in the UK.

It’s all for good reason, with half of people aged 28 to 43 saying that they were happy to pay more for a premium ‘continental’ beer rather than anything made in Britain.

That £6 is suddenly feeling a little bitter.

Well, for Brits after something that is actually from the place portrayed in the advertising and on the bottle or beer pump, there’s one brand of lager that might be the one for you.

“There is no way we could brew elsewhere in the world and still be considered authentically Czech,” said Adam Broz, who is the head brewer of said beer.

The beer in question? Budweiser Budvar.

Absolutely nothing to do with the Budweiser from over in the USA, it is an incredibly popular beer from the Czech Republic.

Owned by the Czech government, it is entirely committed to keeping production inside the country, and has a story that most breweries would kill for, with just 10 head brewers having run the show in its 129-year history.

On the authentic nature of their lager, Broz told the BBC: “Firstly there are the ingredients. To be authentic you need quality, local Czech ingredients… and there is no other place with identical water like our brewery’s natural well.

“Secondly, there is the equipment of the brewery… if you have two breweries, they won’t always have exactly the same geometry or size, and you could end up with significant differences despite using the same recipe.”

Budvar offers an increasingly rare phenomenon in the world of beer, with it still brewed where it was made and exported across the globe.

A spokesperson for Heineken UK, which brews Moretti, previously told the BBC that the lager is ‘brewed all over the world to the same l’autentica recipe, using the same ingredients and crafted to the same quality standards’ as when it was brewed in Italy.

With Madri boasting a ‘soul of Madrid’ slogan but being brewed in the Yorkshire town of Tadcaster, those behind the creation said it was made with authentic Spanish influence.

Karen Albert, Premium Brands Director of Molson Coors Beverage Company, previously said: “Madrí Excepcional was created through a unique collaboration between Molson Coors and La Sagra Brewery, which is based close to Madrid, combining the craft and skill of innovative Spanish brewer Carlos Garcia at La Sagra and our Molson Coors master brewers in the UK.

“Our partnership with Carlos and La Sagra is built on celebrating this fusion of British and Spanish culture, taking inspiration from the vibrancy and diversity of modern Madrid.”

Expert warns Brits there's one item you should avoid when eating a full English breakfast

Expert warns Brits there’s one item you should avoid when eating a full English breakfast

Sorry if you’re having a full English while reading this

A nutrition expert has warned us of the one item you should avoid when eating a full English breakfast.

I mean, by now, I think we all know that a full English isn’t exactly a blueberry smoothie.

The national classic, which can be interpreted in different ways, usually consists of fried eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, hash browns, a grilled tomato, mushrooms and toast.

And incase you’re wondering, a 2021 poll by LADbible’s X (Twitter) followers said the sausage was the most important element of an English breakfast.

Now, the dish usually contains around 807 calories, according to BBC Good Food, and that’s around 34 percent of the recommended daily calories (2500kcal) for men, and around 42 percent for women (2000kcal).

But rather than just looking at the calories, nutrition expert Daniel Herman, has revealed what he thinks the most unnecessary element is.

The founder of Bio-Synergy told the Daily Express: “Breakfast is definitely my favourite meal, and a full English is a real treat, however it does have some drawbacks.”

And one of those is having fried bread on your full English.

“Frying bread in butter adds a significant amount of saturated fat to the dish, which can result in an increased risk of heart disease and high cholesterol levels.” he said.

“Fried bread provides very few essential nutrients compared to whole grain bread or other healthier alternatives. It lacks fibre, vitamins, and minerals that are important for overall health.”

He added that a lot of fried foods in general have been ‘associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and other chronic health conditions’.

Personal trainer and nutrition coach Alanna Kate Derrick, from Gold BJJ, said that she ‘absolutely get the appeal’ of having a slice of fried bread, adding that the ‘crispy outer texture giving way to a pillowy soft interior is downright crave-worthy’.

“But from a nutritional perspective, fried white bread tends to be calorically dense yet lacking in vitamins, minerals, fibre and other beneficial nutrients our bodies need.” she added.

“The high heat and oil it’s cooked in can also render some of the existing nutrients less bioavailable.”

However, it’s not all bad as Daniel says that eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans are the most healthiest elements of a full English.

And to make your breakfast even healthier, he advises to switch out fried bread for whole grain toast because it has more fibre and nutrients.

“Mash up some avocado and spread it on whole grain toast for a nutritious and delicious alternative to fried bread,” he added.

“Avocado provides healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.”
