Princess Diana’s former chauffeur has spoken out for the first time in decades and has made the bold claim that she would still be here today if he was driving that night.
The mystery and intrigue surrounding her death is still a hot topic 27 years on, as people still think about what really happened on that fateful day in Paris.
Just 36 at the time of her death, the Princess of Wales died from the injuries that she sustained in the early hours on 31 August, 1997.

The Royal Family member was travelling in a car with boyfriend, filmmaker Dodi Fayed, along with Diana’s driver, Henri Paul, and Fayed’s bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones in Paris in the early hours of the morning.
As the car was chased by nine journalists through the Pont de l’Alma underpass, something went horribly wrong.
It was reported that Paul lost control of the car, crashing into a column in the underpass, killing himself and Fayed instantly, while Diana and Rees-Jones were left critically injured.
Firefighters arrived at the scene with emergency services to attempt to recover those injured and transfer them to hospital, where Diana’s last words, ‘Oh my God, what’s happened?’ were heard by a firefighter.

Sadly, the former British Princess died at 4am in hospital.
But now, Princess Diana’s former chauffeur has spoken out about the tragic event, saying: “I’d have taken a bullet for Diana. My job was my life.
“I was always there for her. I went from having the dream job to having to start again from scratch.”
He later claimed: “All I know is that if life had taken a different trajectory, if I’d been driving her that night in Paris, she would still be here today… because I would’ve kept her safe.”
Steve revealed that he ‘cannot put into words’ the grief he felt when Princess Diana ‘was killed’.

A former member of the army, he also explained how he was ‘forced out’ of his job, being made redundant after eight years.
Having long wondered why, it took him watching Netflix’s The Crown series to find out what happened.
Apparently, journalist Martin Bashir had spread lies about the driver, to try and win Diana’s trust prior to his controversial Panorama interview with her.
He told her that Steve had leaked information about her to the press.
Luckily, in May this year, Steve received compensation after Bashir’s false allegations.
Still unhappy, Steve stated: “In essence he told her I was a traitor, when all along the treachery was his.”

Prince Harry has broken his silence on his father’s cancer diagnosis for the first time.
The Duke of Sussex flew back to the UK from his home in the US last Tuesday (6 February) to be with his dad, King Charles, after news of his cancer diagnosis broke.
The King shared the news with the world via a statement from Buckingham Palace, which revealed that he would be postponing public duties while he receives treatment.
The statement read: “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.
“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
It went on to say that Charles had made the decision to make his diagnosis public in ‘the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer’ as well as to ‘prevent speculation’.
Prince Harry reportedly had a brief meeting with his father at Clarence House on Tuesday, before embarking on the 5,000-mile journey home the following day (7 February) after a whirlwind 26-hour trip.
He did not publicly address Charles health woes at the time, but he is now opening up about his feelings in a bombshell Good Morning America interview which was announced earlier today (16 February).
The short 15-second trailer shows the Duke of Sussex discussing his ‘life with Meghan, how his father King Charles is doing and his passion for supporting wounded warriors’.

In the snippet, Prince Harry said of his father’s diagnosis: “The fact I was able to get on a plane and see him and spend any time with him – I’m grateful for that.
“Through all these families I see on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together. Any illness, any sickness brings family together.”
His latest interview will air at some point later today and will be broadcast on ABC, although the channel is not available for Brits.
However, you can tune in to the live broadcast on the ABC News channel on YouTube.
The King has been flooded with well-wishes following the announcement of his diagnosis, including several from leading cancer charities and organisations.
Doctor Jay Verma, president of the GP section at the Royal Society of Medicine, thanked the King for raising awareness about cancer.
He said: “We wish His Majesty a speedy recovery and success in his treatment for cancer.
“We have made leaps and bounds in our cancer treatment and survival rates, and the earlier a problem is diagnosed, the more options there are for treatment.
“We would also like to thank His Majesty for using his unique position in highlighting how cancer is indiscriminate in who it affects and that there should be no shame or embarrassment in coming forward to seek help and advice.
“The NHS has a system of cancer screenings and if you receive a communication saying you are due for an appointment, it is vital you make an appointment. It could save your life.
“If you have any symptoms which cause you concern, you should get in contact with your GP practice.
“Please don’t be shy – the more information we have the better to help – hopefully – rule out cancer or, if not, put you on the most suitable treatment pathway.”

The wife of TV doctor Michael Mosley, who has been missing since Wednesday, has insisted that ‘we will not lose hope’.
The 67-year-old was last seen setting off on a walk to the centre of Greek island Symi on 5 June.
Mosley was last spotted by CCTV at a grey-stoned house nearby the harbour after leaving his wife, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, on Agios Nikolaos beach at 13:30 local time.
Dr Bailey alerted officials at around 7:30pm that her husband still hadn’t returned from his walk.
Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, the mayor of Symi, said that Bailey and her four children are set to help with the search.

The mayor said that he hopes the presenter is found ‘safe and alive’, adding: “All the community is so sad about this, (it has) never happened before.”
And today (8 June), Dr Bailey Mosley has issued an emotional statement to the BBC, reading: “It has been three days since Michael left the beach to go for a walk.
“The longest and most unbearable days for myself and my children.
“The search is ongoing and our family are so incredibly grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities and the British Consulate who are working tirelessly to help find Michael. We will not lose hope.”
The mayor said that firefighters searched a four-mile radius of the area at 6am, with still no sign of Mosley.

Mr Papakaloudoukas said there’s been ‘nothing, nothing’, and that the area is ‘very dangerous’.
However, the search remains ongoing as the rescue workers are looking high and low in the mountainous area.
The mayor speculated that the presenter may have walked along a steep uphill concrete road.
And at the end of the street, he may have gone up a small path, which leads into the rocky landscape with no surrounding infrastructure.
The mayor’s daughter, Mika Papakalodouka, told the PA news agency: “It is a small island, people talk. We’re good people actually here. Everybody is looking for him.
“It’s such a small island to get lost on. It’s so weird for us. Everybody is worried and looking for him.”
The broadcaster has been working with the BBC since 1985 and is known for making numerous appearances on The One Show.
In 2021, he presented Lose a Stone in 21 Days for Channel 4, promoting what he calls a healthy lifestyle, consisting of intermittent fasting and a keto diet.

Despite Kate Middleton admitting to editing that Mother’s Day photo, Brits still have more questions than answers to the ongoing saga.
The Princess of Wales put out a sweet photograph of her with her three children – George, Charlotte and Louis – to commemorate the holiday.
It came after weeks of speculation regarding her whereabouts after the Palace announced that she would be taking a break from Royal engagements following surgery in January.
When rumours began emerging on social media regarding Kate’s wellbeing after weeks of not being seen or heard from, her reps were forced to issue a statement confirming the Royal was ‘doing well’.
Well, last week Kate finally broke her silence by posting a Mother’s Day portrait on X.
Alongside the photo, Kate wrote: “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months.
“Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. C”.
However, eagle-eyed social media followers began spotting small editing errors in the picture, such as Charlotte’s sleeve appearing transparent.

Kensington Palace
The buzz around the picture further fuelled the conspiracy theories which had been spreading online in Kate’s absence.
This lead to Kate releasing a second statement to social media today, in which she admitted that the image had been edited.
She wrote: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.
“I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”
Although this statement was likely intended to quell any concerns, it doesn’t appear to have settled anything as Brits are now asking about one detail in the photo that hasn’t been accounted for.
One person tweeted: “Sure. Just a few questions:
“1. why did you feel the need to experiment?
“2. Where’s your wedding ring?
“3. Why, in the process of experimenting, did you give yourself an Adam‘s apple?
“4. #WhereIsKateMiddleton?
“Asking for a nation.”
Another commented: “So why did she edit out her wedding ring then?”

Kensington Palace
“Where’s your wedding ring?” another enquired.
Unfortunately for Kate and the Royal Family, this photo has opened up a whole other can of worms.
It’s not just the public commenting on the image, as Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith has shared his thoughts.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain after leaving the Celebrity Big Brother house, he said: “The smiles and faces said it all for me, I thought it was beautiful.
“Obviously the family wouldn’t be the ones to do any touch ups, so if that’s gone through some filter before it’s gone out to the broader world then they would be shocked in themselves.
“But all I was looking at was the faces, the smiles, and all that it looked like the beautiful family that they are. And it looked really genuine with the smiles on faces.”

While social media users may have been obsessing over pictures of the Glasgow Wonka event, attention has quickly turned to something a little more regal.
Yes, Kate Middleton’s Mother’s Day photo – obviously.
A photo of the Princess of Wales was released yesterday (10 March) for the first time since Christmas Day, after a whole lot of questioning about her whereabouts.
But it seemed to cause a whole new kind of headache as people quickly spotted some ‘strange’ details that didn’t seem right about the snap.
The photo of Kate with her three kids (George, Charlotte and Louis) had to be removed by official agencies following claims it was ‘manipulated’.
Social media users pointed out multiple issues, from Prince Louis ‘missing a finger’ to ‘Charlotte’s wrist’.
And the Royal released a statement this morning (11 March) admitting she’d edited it.
The Princess included: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.
“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.”

Kensington Palace
LADbible spoke to graphic designer Josh Sandhu, of the Grove Gallery, about the odd image.
“These sorts of things happen, but it’s a bit of surprise that no eyes caught the errors when it was sent to the press. In my opinion, what happened here is evidently there’s multiple shots here to produce a composite image,” he claimed.
“They have likely picked the best shot from Kate’s face and the children’s faces, then stitched things together in Photoshop.”
Sandhu said while this type of thing ‘isn’t unusual’ it’s ‘odd’ that it wasn’t caught initially.
The experienced graphic designer explained that it would have been ‘approved multiple times by the Royal Family and their team’.
“It is fairly shocking it’s managed to get through and indeed has caused a major stir,” he added.

Kensington Palace
Sandhu reckons they might have sent a working image instead of the final one but ‘either way it’s a monumental error’.
He added: “I imagine a number of people will now be held accountable.”
Kate has been absent from Royal duties and the public for several weeks, following her ‘planned abdominal surgery’ in January. It is possible this takes quite some time to recover from.
According to Page Six, representatives for the Princess of Wales issued a statement saying she was ‘doing well’.
They said: “Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the Princess’ recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands.”
