A woman has issued an energy drink warning after her husband suffered a ‘cardiac arrest’ from ‘drinking too many’ of them.
Meagan Shreve has taken to TikTok to encourage people to stop drinking the stuff as she recalled a night in January when she woke up to her husband ‘not feeling great’.
With Aaron’s ‘heart racing’, the mum thought he was having a panic attack and encouraged him to ‘wait it out’ but he knew he needed to get to hospital ‘immediately’.
Very quickly after getting there, the man thought he was ‘going to go down’ and alarms began going off. “His heart stopped,” Meagan explained.

Doctors began performing chest compressions to resuscitate the 34-year-old which Meagan said resulted in broken ribs. She described the whole ordeal as very ‘traumatic’.
Aaron then had his heart monitored for ‘five to six weeks’ by cardiologists as they tried to find a cause for his cardiac arrest.
The woman claimed that after this there were still ‘no answers’ and it ‘all came down to the fact that they think that he was dehydrated and having too many energy drinks’.
Meagan added in TikTok comments that her husband had been drinking around ‘two to three’ of them a day, plus coffee.
According to Bupa UK, the safe daily amount of caffeine for those over the age of 18 is up to 400mg (working out at about four or five cups of coffee).
Meagan stressed how there was ‘essentially nothing wrong with’ Aaron but this scary situation seemed to come down to his consumption of the drinks.

The NHS recommends drinking caffeine ‘in moderation’ as it says some are ‘more sensitive’ to it than others.
And for Meagan, energy drinks are now a frightening idea.
“If you’re somebody who’s downing two, three, four energy drinks a day, I would highly encourage you to stop,” she warned.
She says the drinks can be ‘extremely dangerous’, adding that even if you don’t want to quit for yourself: “Do it for the people in your life, because this is something that I’ve never been able to get over.”

This is what happens to your body in the minutes, hours and even days after you consume a high caffeine energy drink.
Most of us are aware that energy drinks aren’t particularly good for our health, right?
Some of them cram in as much as 160-200mg of caffeine per 500ml – for context, your average cup of coffee has around 80mg and a can of cola contains about 30mg.
And if you’ve wondered what consuming so much caffeine in such a short space of time can do to your body, a handy infographic shared by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital has the run-down.
The first 10 minutes
In the first few minutes after you’ve knocked back an energy drink, the caffeine will be making its way into your bloodstream, which will see an increase in your heart rate and blood pressure.
15 to 45 minutes
It’s fully kicking in now – as this is the time when the caffeine levels will peak in your bloodstream.
You may feel more alert and have increased levels of concentration. This is the ‘best bit’, basically.

30 to 50 minutes
The caffeine is now fully absorbed, which your liver responds to by absorbing more sugar into your bloodstream.
This can lead to a bit of a sugar high, which might give you a bit of boost alongside the caffeine.
1 hour
But what goes up, must come down and around about the one hour point you may begin to experience a sugar crash alongside the effects of the caffeine wearing off.
During this time, you may start to feel tired and your energy levels will drop.
5 to 6 hours
About five to six hours in, your body will have reduced the content of caffeine in your bloodstream by around half. But this can vary depending on numerous factors including your age.

12 hours
And six hours on from that – 12 hours after you drank the energy drink – your body should have removed all the caffeine from your bloodstream. However, again, this can vary depending on biological factors.
12 to 24 hours
If you regularly drink caffeine, at this point you might start to experience some withdrawal symptoms – these can include headaches, increased irritability and constipation. Lovely.
7 to 12 days
Previous studies have shown that this time frame for your body to become tolerant to your regular caffeine dosage. In other words, the amount of time it takes for you to become used to the amount of caffeine you regularly intake, therefore lowering its impact on you.

Here is the horrifying case of an a family who all suffered a horrific and painful death just hours after eating the same meal for breakfast.
Batch-cooking and freezing meals is a game-changer. You can enjoy the benefits of a home-cooked meal with the convenience of not having to make it from scratch after a long day at work.
However, this method can also lead to serious health issues should you not take the appropriate care when storing and reheating certain food items.

Eating reheated frozen food led to one family in China dying days later in hospital (Getty Stock Images)
For one family in China, the decision to start their morning by tucking into a homemade dish named Suantangzi, a type of thick noodle made with fermented corn flour, had deadly consequences.
On the morning of 5 October, 2020, the family of 12 gathered together and ate the meal to mark a national holiday.
The noodles had been defrosted and prepared after spending a year in the freezer, with only nine out of the 12 people there choosing to eat the dish. It’s understood the younger members of the family had decided against eating it, due to the taste.
In the following hours, all of the family members who had eaten the noodles began to feel extremely unwell, exhibiting symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
They were admitted to hospital for treatment, but would all succumb to the mysterious illness within the following days.
Following the deaths, local authorities began to investigate what had made three quarters of the family members in attendance fall ill and pass away, with the fermented soup seemingly the most probable cause.
During the process of being frozen and defrosted, the noodles had spoiled, causing a high concentration of deadly bongkrekic acid to develop. A high concentration of bongkrekic acid had been detected in both the noodles and the gastric fluid examined by doctors.
What is bongkrekic acid, and how does it develop?
Bongkrekic acid is a deadly respiratory toxin which forms in certain fermented foods.
Produced by the bacterium burkholderia gladioli, the toxin is odourless and tasteless – meaning the family would have had no idea of how dangerous the food was while consuming it.
Bongkrekic acid is also heat stable, which means that cooking will not kill it, and attacks the body by targeting the organs such as the liver, kidneys, and brain.

Symptoms develop within a couple of hours of consuming contaminated food, which can cause fatalities in as little as 24 hours.
“Eating food contaminated with bongkrekic acid can result in poisoning for both humans and animals and even lead to death, with death rates as high as 40 to 100 percent,” a report from China Daily explained at the time.

A report published by Which? has revealed an urgent security warning to owners of three popular air fryer brands.
Although air fryers have been available to buy since 2010, the appliance has only really been a common sight in our homes in the past couple of years as Brits looked for more quick and affordable ways to cook their food.
Fast forward to 2024 and most us cook – or knows someone who cooks – with an air fryer on the regular.
However Which? has now weighed in on the safety of smart appliances in the home – and it could be bad news if you own one of these brands.

Which? released the concerning report after testing various smart appliances (Getty Stock Images)
In a report titled ‘Why is my air fryer spying on me?’ the consumer advice site revealed that it had tested various smart appliances currently sold in the UK, with their findings reporting three products – the Aigostar, Xiaomi Mi Smart, and Cosori CAF-LI401S – wanted to know customers’ precise location and had requested permission to ‘record audio on the user’s phone, for no specified reason’.
Which?’s report goes on to add that the Xiaomi app – which is linked to their air fryer products had connected to the following trackers: Facebook, Pangle (which is the ad network of TikTok for Business) and Chinese company Tencent (depending on the user’s location).
Both of the Xiaomi and Aigostar fryers tested also sent information collected from users to servers in China – although Which? states that this is flagged in the user privacy notice.
Meanwhile, Aigostar had additionally had given users the option to enter in personal details such as gender and date of birth when setting up an account, however, this isn’t mandatory.
Speaking about the report’s findings, Harry Rose, Which? magazine editor, said: “Our research shows how smart tech manufacturers and the firms they work with are currently able to collect data from consumers, seemingly with reckless abandon, and this is often done with little or no transparency.”

Responding to the claims, a representative for Cosori said (via Which?): “We prioritise privacy, and subject to our internal compliance requirements, the smart products must comply with GDPR. However, without specific test reports from your firm or the test lab, we cannot comment further.”
Meanwhile, a representative for Xiaomi told LADbible: “We are aware of the recent press release by Which? and some information in it including ‘Xiaomi fryer sent people’s personal information to servers in China’ is inaccurate and misleading, which could be resulted from some misunderstandings. We are in the process of clarifying with Which?. Our privacy policy is developed to comply with applicable regulations such as the UK GDPR and the DPA 2018. By complying with local applicable laws and regulations in markets where Xiaomi operates, user data are stored in compliance with local laws. We reserve the right to take legal actions to protect our reputation.”
Aigostar did not respond to Which?’s request for comment.
LADbible Group has also reached out to Cosori and Aigostar for additional comment.

A neurologist has revealed the exact age he believes people should ditch their beer-drinking habit.
Whether it’s toasting to a friend’s recent achievement or relaxing after a long week of work, most of us enjoy a good tipple. We’re also more than likely aware that our favourite kicking back with a cold one isn’t particularly ideal for our health – especially if you’re drinking sessions have a habit of turning into all-night benders.
But were you aware there’s an age in which it’s advised you give up the booze for good?

Your beer drinking days could be numbered (Getty Stock Images)
The idea is advocated for by American neurologist Dr Richard Restak, who shared the idea in his 2021 book The Complete Guide to Memory: The Science of Strengthening Your Mind, which aims to untangle the mystery of how our memory works.
In the book, Dr Restak touches on the relation between alcohol and our memory, revealing that drinking into your twilight years may not be a particularly wise decision, as alcohol can alter the impact of our neurons (nerve cells).
“Alcohol is a very, very weak neurotoxin – it’s not good for nerve cells,” he writes, adding that from the age of 65, your body has less neurons than before.
“It is essential to abstain from alcohol at a stage in life where preserving neurons is crucial.”
It may be a myth that the brain begins to lose nerve cells at a rapid rate as we get older; indeed, recent studies are currently suggesting that we may only lose between ‘2 to 4 per cent’ of neurons across our lifetime. However, protecting our brains as we age is still critical.
In Dr Restak’s view, people should begin to significantly decrease their alcohol consumption around the age of 65, with the goal of cutting out drinking entirely by age 70.

Dr Richard Restak has argued people should ideally stop drinking at 65 (Getty Stock Images)
“I strongly suggest that if you are 65 years old or older, that you completely and permanently eliminate alcohol from your diet,” he writes.
Now, you may be thinking, ‘I’m already old, what damage will a couple of beers do to my body’? Well, as it turns out, a lot.
One of the main reasons Dr Restak urges people to put down the bottle is in order to minimise our risk of developing dementia.
This argument is backed up by data shared by Alzheimer’s Society, which revealed people who drank excessively were at a higher rate of developing the disease.
Dr Restak also highlighted the heightened risk of falling while intoxicated, which can cause serious injuries and even death to older people.
All good things really must come to and end, I guess.
