First man to undergo face and double hand transplant shares new photos celebrating engagement

The first man to undergo a face and double hand transplant has recently made a massive announcement.

In August 2020, Joe DiMeo underwent a revolutionary medical procedure that saw him become the world’s first person to successfully receive a face and double hand transplant after suffering from a terrible accident two years prior.

The then 20-year-old was involved in a car accident after he fell asleep at the wheel of his Dodge Challenger while returning home from a night shift. The vehicle ended up hitting a curb before catching fire.

If it wasn’t for the two people who stopped and dragged DiMeo out of the car, he may have not lived to tell his incredible story.

He was rushed to the hospital where it was confirmed that he had suffered third-degree burns to over 80 percent of his body.

Doctors placed him in an induced coma before he was forced to have his fingertips amputated and undergo more than 20 reconstructive surgeries.

Then in 2020, he was given the chance to make medical history by becoming the first person to undergo a face and double hand transplant and despite only having a six percent chance of it being successful, he agreed.

The surgery lasted a whopping 23 hours and took place at NYU Langone in New York City. In the end, it was a huge success.

“We wanted to give him not only an operation that made him look better, but it ultimately had to work ideally, especially with the hands,” explained Eduardo Rodriguez, director of the Face Transplant Program at NYU.

DiMeo then spent a further 45 days in intensive care and then another two months in the hospital, where he had to learn how to open his new eyelids and his new hands.

Rodriguez said that his patient was the “most highly motivated patient” he had ever met.

“He wants to work on sports, he loves to play golf, and he wants to get back to the course. I’m always impressed by the amount of weight that he can lift and the quality of his grip strength,” the expert added.

Four years on from that moment DiMeo is now thriving and has even made a massive personal announcement.

He is now engaged to his girlfriend Jessica Koby!

The pair initially met when Koby reached out to him via Instagram after hearing about his journey. They quickly started up a friendship that turned romantic and now, it seems as though they’re ready for a new chapter in their love story.

Taking to Instagram, DiMeo recently shared some adorable photos of the pair with their Boston Terrier dogs alongside the caption: “Big things going down on December 5th”, with emojis of a bride and groom.

Koby can also be seen wearing an engagement ring in the photo.

The 33-year-old also shared a video of the proposal on her own account, showing her fiancé getting down on one knee.

“I guess I’m the right one Joe asked and I said yes. I can’t wait @joeroydimeo,” she captioned the clip.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

With an estimated 120 million people tuning into Netflix to watch last night’s highly anticipated night of boxing, it’s no surprise that every small detail is being talked about in the fallout.

From Mike Tyson’s butt becoming an unexpected star of the show to the legendary boxer’s big “missed opportunity”, there were a number of eyebrow-raising moments.

But as the “Baddest Man on the Planet” competed in his first professional fight for 19 years in front of 72,000 at AT&T Stadium, one small detail that did not escape the eagle eyes of viewers or the commentary team was Mike Tyson’s penchant for biting his gloves.

“Why does Tyson keep biting his glove? Is it so he doesn’t bite Jake? TYSON PLEASE BITE HIS EAR OFF,” one fan wrote.

And there were a lot of suggestions about why he was doing it, with retired world champ Tony Bellew tweeting: “Mike’s biting his glove cos he’s in pain.”

“His mind, training and muscle memory is there but his body isn’t cooperating. Imagine knowing exactly how to do something and wanting to but your body won’t let you,” another wrote. “It’s frustrating, so he bites his glove out of frustration.”

Others who firmly believe the fight was stage believe Tyson was biting his clove as a way of stopping himself just KO-ing Paul. “Mike Tyson had the chance to finish off Jake Paul at this very moment,” one person wrote. “You know he thought about it. Then he bit his glove.”

“Mike Tyson actually had to bite his gloves so not to throw them. He was holding back his instinct. #rigged,” another wrote

Sharing their theory about Tyson using the gesture as a “sign” for Paul to pull his punches, another X user suggested: “Mike Tyson biting his glove so frequently was a signal for Jake Paul to pull his punches.

“Then continue swinging when he stopped biting his glove. Watch for the pattern.”

And sharing a video of Tyson during training, another claimed: “The match is fixed and was just for done for money. I mean Jake Paul was sweating [compared] to Mike. Biting the gloves was all to hold himself back from KILLING him. They told him not kill him.”

However, after the fight, Tyson happily addressed the glove biting in a post-match interview.

When interviewer Ariel Helwani pointed out that some of the commentary team had been questioning what the in-ring gesture was all about, 58-year-old Tyson replied: “That was a habit of mine, biting my glove when I fight […]

“I have a biting fixation.”

Of course, this tongue-in-cheek admission by Tyson harks back to his infamous 1997 disqualification during a match against Evander Holyfield, where Tyson startlingly bit off part of Holyfield’s ear.

The bite landed Tyson a $3 million fine and a one-year ban from the sport.

“I’ve heard about that,” Helwani quipped: “I don’t want to know more…”

Paul unanimously claimed a victory over Tyson, scoring an unequivocal win on all scorecards with 80-72, 79-73, 79-73.

Despite the jest, Friday’s face-off marked a significant moment for Tyson, who was stepping back into the professional ring for the first time since his 2005 knockout loss to Kevin McBride. Although he had a less consequential bout against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match in 2020, this was Tyson’s reentry into professional boxing.

And sadly, it appears that it’ll be his last. When asked if he’s be returning to the ring in the future, “Iron Mike” said: “I don’t know. It depends on the situation […] I don’t think so.”

“I didn’t prove nothing to anyone, just myself,” Tyson continued. “I’m not one of these guys who goes out to please the world, I’m just happy with what I can do.”

On the flip side, Jake Paul’s victory only adds another feather to his cap, pushing his professional record to an impressive 11-1. Having already conquered a slew of mixed martial arts fighters and lesser-known boxers, Paul’s triumph over the boxing titan further cements his place in the combat sports world.

And the crowd went… mild.

Despite being perhaps the most anticipated boxing fight this century, Jake Paul versus the legendary Mike Tyson fell flat.

Are we really surprised? At 58 years old, Tyson may always be “the Baddest Man on the Planet”, but his time in the ring looks to be done, as the 27-year-old Jake Paul emerged victorious via unanimous decision.

With the fight being streamed live on Netflix, it was undoubtedly going to pull in millions of viewers. In fact, Paul said in his post-fight interview that is believed around 120 million viewers tuned in for a night of boxing.

However, some of those viewers may not be logging back in.

Yes, following the fight result, many viewers have taken to social media to announce that they will be deleting their Netflix accounts.

This also comes after endless tweets and comments about users experiencing streaming issues during the live event – with many plagued by the red buffering ring for much of the evening.

“Netflix has absolutely no idea how to do a live stream – they lack the proper infrastructure [sic],” one person tweeted. “Months of waiting for this disappointment, can’t even watch the fight. Constant 25% buffering. Canceling my subscription indefinitely.”

Another disappointed viewer wrote: “I will be canceling my Membership after you all completely screw the streaming up!”

“I’m canceling Netflix. I couldn’t watch it live and it was 1972 resolution,” another wrote.

One furious viewer tweeted: “Netflix, you suck. You are by far the worst streaming service. I, and just about everyone I know is canceling our subscriptions. You made us miss parts of the fight because you don’t know how to anticipate server loads, and your announcer got Tyson’s age incorrect.”

“Cancelling my subscription to Netflix because you all dropped the ball,” another tweeted to the platform.

“Hey @netflix, do we cancel outright or request a refund?” Another wrote. “Asking for millions worldwide.”

How do you cancel your Netflix account?

So, how do you cancel your Netflix subscription?

Well, according to the streaming giant, the instructions are as follows: Go to your Account page and look under the Membership section.

“You’ll see either a link to guide you through the cancellation process or instructions to contact your payment partner to cancel. If you cancel with time left in your billing period, you can use Netflix until the end of the billing period.”

Netflix adds: “Signing out of your account or deleting the Netflix app doesn’t cancel your account.”

Jake Paul has defeated Mike Tyson in what was arguably the biggest night of boxing this century.

No matter what you think about Jake Paul being a YouTuber-turned-boxer or about the legendary Mike Tyson stepping foot in the ring at the age of 58 against somebody 31 years his junior… this was a must-watch fight.

It was the biggest age gap in a professionally sanctioned boxing match. And despite the excitement, I think the fight went exactly how many of us expected.

Paul was driven to the ring in a Chevvy, to the sounds of Phil Collin’s ‘In The Air Tonight’ and a chorus of boos from those in attendance at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

However, Tyson was showered with cheers – as the estimated 72,000 in attendance were just in awe at seeing the boxing legend once again return to the ring for a professional bout. “Welcome home, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson!”

The first couple of rounds were certainly a feeling-out process, with not much action taking place. By the third round, however, it was evident Tyson was rocked, as Paul continued to display youth over experience.

By the sixth round, the fight had slowed down, and the action was just… lacking, with Paul landing more hits than Tyson. At times, it looks like Paul could have ended it whenever he wanted.

By the seventh round, Tyson was displaying perhaps one short burst of fury per round, but it wasn’t enough to knock down the younger Paul.

In the eighth round, it was like both men knew what the result was going to be. Jake bowed down to Tyson in the final seconds, and Tyson offered his glove in a sign of respect.

By the final bell, both fighters were booed. It was not the fight people wanted.

The judges’ decision was predictable, and Paul emerged victorious by a unanimous decision. One judge scored it 80-72 with two judges seeing it as a 79-73 win for Paul.

Nevertheless, with the hype and excitement – and the sheer spectacle of seeing Tyson back in the ring – there’s no doubt this was a special fight… just… slightly underwhelming.

In fact, BBC Sport reported that some fans were leaving before the conclusion. Ouch.

Prior to the Tyson/Paul fight, viewers were left in awe by the event’s co-main event, as Katie Taylor narrowly clinched victory against Amanda Serrano in a nail-biting rematch.

Despite being shaken by a powerful right hand from Serrano in the opening round, Taylor managed to pull through and secure a unanimous (albeit controversial) decision from the judges, all scoring the fight 95-94 in her favor.

The match intensified when Serrano suffered a significant cut in the sixth round as the result of an accidental headbutt.

The two fighters pushed each other to the limits, but it was Taylor who emerged victorious, holding her ground in a thrilling encounter that kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

Serrano said after her loss: “I knew when it went to the judges it was going to be a little shady. Listen, I chose to fight. I went up three divisions. I lost in two and I dared to be great tonight. I am the featherweight champion of the world. I want to be great. I only fight the best. It is what it is. I’m a featherweight.”

GettyImages-2185049765.jpgCredit: Al Bello / Getty

Speaking about her injury, she added: “Every time you get a cut it hurts. You get blood in your eye. She kept headbutting me, but we knew that from the very beginning, the first fight. It’s not only my fight, she did it with Chantelle Cameron. Listen, I am Puerto Rican. No matter how many cuts, I will fight to the very end.”

And speaking on her victory, Taylor said post-fight: “It’s very hard to tell during the fight. I knew it was an absolute slug fest in there, an absolute war. Thank God I came out on the winning side.

“Thank you to Amanda, she’s a fantastic champion. I think we agreed to 12, three minute rounds in our next fight. The triple is on.

“That’s what a boxer does. We train to be able to recover from those punches. She’s a hard puncher. A very tough warrior. I was prepared for that. I don’t care if the commentary team or the crowd disagree with the result. The only ones who matter are the judges around the ring. So thank God.

“I definitely didn’t agree with the point deduction. I certainly wasn’t fighting dirty. Sometimes it gets rough in there.

“This is an amazing moment for women’s boxing. We put on another amazing show.”

One thing is for sure: What an incredible night of boxing.

We are just moments away from what could arguably be one of the biggest fights in boxing history.

Taking place in front of thousands at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, boxing legend Mike Tyson will step foot in a ring for his first professional fight since losing to Kevin McBride back in 2005.

Tyson did take part in an exhibition fight back in 2020 against a then-51-year-old Roy Jones Jr. — but at the age of 58, many people are questioning if “Iron Mike” should even be stepping in the ring against a 27-year-old Paul.

Can Tyson possibly rewind the clock and prove he still has that ferocious intensity that took him to the world heavyweight championship and made him one of the most feared and successful boxers of all time?

Well, anybody who tuned into their weigh-in certainly saw signs of the Mike Tyson we all knew in the past.

During Thursday night’s weigh-in, Tyson stripped down to not only showcase his remarkable physique, but put the young Jake Paul in his place.

In a moment that appeared to be over in the blink of an eye, Paul was seen crawling onto the stage and getting in Tyson’s face — before the 58-year-old slapped Paul across the face and exploded with rage.

Although some viewers believed the moment was “scripted” or due to the way Paul entered the stage, Tyson has now explained in his own words why he land a hand on his opponent.

Speaking to the New York Post, Tyson said: “I was in my socks and he had on shoes.

“He stepped on my toe because he is a f**king a**hole. I wanted to think it happened by accident. But now I think it may have happened on purpose.”

Rewatching the video, you can see Tyson clear gesture and point to Paul’s foot and he flies into a rage.

“I was in a lot of pain. I had to reciprocate,” Tyson said.

In response to the slap, Paul ramped up the anomsity between the two, telling reporters: “He hits like a bitch … He must die.”

Paul may just regret those words.

One thing is for sure — after the weigh-in, Tyson has silenced a lot of his doubters.

Man who invented most excruciating torture device ended up being killed by it himself

vt-author-image

By Nasima Khatun

One of the saddest things about life is the irony of being hurt by something you love, and one man learned this the hard way after he became victim to his own excruciating torture device.

According to Study.com, the Brazen Bull is a contraption of torture and execution used by the Ancient Greeks and Romans to punish their enemies.

This life-sized bull-shaped statue, which was typically made of brass or bronze, was designed to be hollow in the stomach area so that victims could be locked inside it and then roasted alive over an open flame.

Flute-like pipes would carry the victim’s screams through the bull’s nostrils, creating what was described as “animalistic music” while the stench of the scorched flesh billowed out in puffs of smoke – it’s pretty crazy that someone even thought of this, to be honest.

And who was the creator of such a cruel device? Perilaus of Athens, an Ancient Greek inventor.

Upon hearing about it, people couldn’t believe that someone could even come up with something as barbaric as this.

“How horrible humanity can be that this torture death invention ever existed,” wrote one person while another added: “Makes me really grateful to live in this era.”

A third also commented: “Besides just the sheer, excruciating, unimaginable pain, there is also the psychological effect of it being in an enclosed space and pitch black.”

Big yikes.

Perilaus passed the torture chamber onto Phalaris, the tyrant of the Sicilian state of Akragas, and let’s just say he put it to good use.

A man as evil as Phalaris was known to always know how to keep up his reputation and when he was presented with this gift, he decided to ask Perilaus for a real-life demonstration.

After getting into the bull’s belly, the inventor didn’t think the tyrant would lock him inside and start the fire, but he did.

However, just before Perilaus could die, he unlocked the device and let him out.

Those few moments would have been complete agony for him, and his torture didn’t end there.

Despite being let out of the contraption, the inventor was killed after being thrown off the top of a hill by Phalaris’ goons.

The torture device became a staple for the ruler and it was reported that he enjoyed hearing his victims writhe in pain while he watched the bull rock back and forth.

In what can only be described as a full circle event, Phalaris met his match when he was overthrown from power and just to add insult to injury, he was shoved into the Brazen Bull to give him a taste of his own medicine.

And that folks, is the irony of life.
