My daughter wants my brother to walk her down the aisle instead of me. I am heartbroken.

My 25-year-old daughter is finally getting married, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve worked tirelessly all my life to make sure she has everything she needed and more. Her happiness and accomplishment fills me with pride, and I anxiously anticipate her wedding.

When my daughter asked my brother to escort her down the aisle, it hit me like a ton of bricks. “Why not me?” Iasked. She was uneasy and said, “It’s complicated, Dad.”I chatted with my brother, hoping he might clear things up. He hesitated but ultimately stated something shocking:

after our divorce, my ex-wife told our kid that Icheated on her. And now my daughter is angry, believing that I did not deserve the distinction. I am devastated. I recognize I’ve made mistakes in the past, but they have nothing to do with her. I don’t want these previous difficulties to erode the link I have with my kid. What do you advise I do? I would much appreciate your guidance.
