Through her nonprofit organization, Paws Holding on to Life Association, Buket Özgünlü has been a ray of hope for hundreds of stray and disabled dogs for the past four years. Her sanctuary, which is based in Turkey, is home to more than 560 dogs, many of whom have infirmities that make it impossible for them to survive on the streets. Özgünlü has committed herself to providing these creatures with not only care but also a second shot at a happy and loving existence.
“Everyone was saved,” Özgünlü said. Most of them are immobilized. Some have been beaten, shot, or left behind. Every one of them has a history.
They now have a future as well because of her unwavering commitment.
A Special Place for Special Dogs
Paws For dogs who have endured a tremendous deal of suffering, Holding on to Life is a haven of happiness and tranquility rather than just a rescue facility. Because her father is similarly disabled, Özgünlü has a profound affinity for animals with disabilities. She prioritizes the needs of impaired canines and makes sure they receive the care and attention they require because of this personal connection.
She said, “I give disabled dogs more priority because my father is disabled.” “They are more in need of us. I make every effort to look after them.
These canines may explore, play, and live contentedly in their wheelchairs in the idyllic rural surroundings of the sanctuary. However, Özgünlü’s concern for them extends beyond simply providing for their basic need; she is constantly searching for methods to enhance their quality of life.
The Idea of the Dog Train
Özgünlü came up with a brilliant idea one day to make her crippled pups’ life even more joyful. She understood that although the sanctuary was a great place, the dogs were missing out on a huge world beyond its boundaries. She set out to create something unique—a “dog train”—because she wanted to provide them with novel experiences.
She remarked, “I had actually been considering doing such a project for a long time.” “I was really glad I did.”
To properly transport her crippled dogs, Özgünlü made a homemade train out of a line of barrels with wheels that she connected together. They were able to leave the sanctuary and comfortably take in the sights and noises of the outer world thanks to this creative innovation.
Joy Rides for the Dogs
In no time, the pups’ favorite activity was the dog train. Every journey offers fresh sensations that make them incredibly happy. The dogs may experience the thrill of exploring new locations, the warmth of the sun, and the fresh air from their tiny barrels—all while being safe on their specially designed ride.
With pleasure and affection for the dogs she looks after, Özgünlü remarked, “Their happy faces say it all.” These rides are more than just a means of transportation for the pups; they are symbols of joy and freedom.
The dogs’ joy is infectious, and it’s obvious that they enjoy every second of their train excursions. “I’m even happier when I see them so happy and excited,” she continued.
Spreading Smiles in the Community
Not just the puppies are thrilled as the dog train makes its way through neighboring towns. Everyone who sees the train waves and grins wherever it travels. It warms the hearts of everyone who sees crippled canines having fun on their train ride.
Özgünlü remarked, “It makes me even happier because a lot of people like it.” The dog train has grown to be a popular local attraction, promoting positivism and increasing understanding of the value of providing care for animals with disabilities.
These puppies, who were formerly disregarded and neglected, are now shining brightly as they roam about the town, demonstrating the strength of kindness and imagination.
A Labor of Love
Providing care for animals with disabilities is a difficult and, for many, unappreciated undertaking. However, Özgünlü finds that the sight of her dogs’ joyful faces and wagging tails is sufficient compensation. Every wave, grin, and train ride serves as a reminder of the impact she is having on these animals’ lives.
Considering her strong relationship with the puppies under her care, she remarked, “I know very well how much they need it.” In addition to providing these dogs with food and shelter, Özgünlü shows them love, joy, and an opportunity to live life to the fullest.
By creating the dog train, Özgünlü has brought even more delight to her rescued dogs’ lives, demonstrating that even the most neglected souls may rediscover joy with a little imagination and a lot of heart.
