Blind Dog Gets So Excited When She Senses Her Favorite Person’s Nearby

“Grace is very attached to her.”

This is Grace — a sweet senior dog who proves that one’s true love needn’t be seen to be felt to the fullest.

A few years ago, 12-year-old Grace was diagnosed with a painful eye condition which caused her to lose her sight. At the recommendation of her vet, both of Grace’s eyes were removed.

“We ultimately knew it was the best way to keep Grace comfortable and pain free,” Shelby Salmela, Grace’s mom, told The Dodo.

Once lacking vision, however, Grace never lost direction when it came to following her heart.

Though Grace clearly adores Salmela, the pup has always shared a special bond with Salmela’s mother, Grace’s grandma — and after her surgery, that didn’t change.

When Grace could see, she would run with delight into Grandma’s arms. But even without that to guide her sense, Grace’s excitement remains each time Grandma visits.

“It’s so cute to see how excited Grace gets when she realizes that the person at the door is her GG,” Salmela said.

Grace’s reaction to Grandma’s warm embrace shows that, though the pup’s world may be assumed to be dark, it’s actually still full of the familiar brightness of love.

Though Grace is short of one of her senses, her ability to love remains perfectly intact.

In some ways, perhaps, Grace’s inability to see when her grandma is not close by keeps her ever-present in her heart.

“Grace’s grandma, my mom, moved out of state three years ago, so we probably only see her six times a year,” Salmela said. “But Grace is very attached to her. We FaceTime daily, and even when she hears my mom’s voice [during those video chats], she gets excited.”
