A Heartbreaking Discovery in the Depths
The discovery happened deep within the Tom Moore caves south of St. Louis. Experienced cavers Rick Haley and Gerry Keene were leading a group when they stumbled upon a sight that brought them to a standstill. Curled in a ball on the damp cave floor, incredibly weak but undeniably alive, was Abby.
“She was skinny, covered in dirt, and so frail she couldn’t even muster a whimper,” Haley recounted. “It broke my heart to think of what she had endured.”
