Game of Thrones star Michelle Fairley is one of the most renowned British actors around. Other than the fantasy drama, where she played the role of Caitlyn Stark, Fairley has been a part of many other projects – TV, movie, and theater included. But even with all her talent and prowess on stage and screen, the actress is one of the most camera-shy people when she is not working.
Johnny Depp is another actor who does not like being in front of the camera unless he is working. According to him, once your work is done, your part in that project is over. Both Depp and Fairley have similar views on the matter. They also prefer not to watch themselves on the screen and rarely see the projects they have done in their career so far.
Michelle Fairley Takes a Page Out of Johnny Depp’s Playbook
Following in the footsteps of quite a few other actors and actresses, Michelle Fairley says she believes in detaching herself from a project once she is done working on it. The promotion, the glitz and glamour of being an actor, is not for her, and she tries to stay as far away from it as possible. Talking to The Times UK, Fairley said:
I love my job, but there’s a side to it I’m not good at and don’t like. I’m an actor. I like the doing, not the promoting and the glitz.
However, she is not the only one with a similar thought process. One of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Johnny Depp, follows a similar philosophy. He has said on multiple occasions that he does not even like watching himself on the screen. He separates himself from the project as soon as they call wrap and moves on to his next part. Depp told Independent back in 2013:
I made a choice a long time ago, that I was better off not watching my films, which is a drag because you miss out on a lot of your friends’ incredible work. But I feel like it would just harm me. I would rather stay as ignorant as possible about the result of anything because once you’re done playing that character, it’s really not your business anymore.
While their talent speaks for themselves, neither of these actors does the speaking on their own. And let their work do it for them.
Michelle Fairley Hates The Show Side of The Show Business
That is an oxymoron if there ever was one. Michelle Fairley, though came into worldwide popularity because of Game of Thrones, has been part of multiple other projects we know and love. Big or small, she has taken on parts that she felt attracted to and gave them a life of their own. But once done, that part of her life is gone, along with the project.
Fairley neither likes to talk about herself nor be photographed. Although she is a part of the showbiz, she tries to stay away from the show part of the biz as much as possible. She further told The Times UK:
It’s about having respect for yourself. I know it sounds really w***y, but you have to ask, can I live with myself?
She also went on to add:
I don’t really watch anything I’m in, or only if I have to.
Even if she doesn’t like watching herself on the screen and avoids it as much as possible, it’s not been a problem for her. She has continued to give exceptional performances time and time again. And we cannot help but be in awe of her.
