There was a time when Sean Combs aka Diddy was approached by Chris Brown in hopes of getting signed with Bad Boy Entertainment. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out for the King of R&B and he was turned away from the industry mogul’s door empty-handed. Eventually, the two musicians’ friendship bloomed and they even collaborated together.

So, what happened that made Diddy want to say no to the singer who would go on to make waves in the music industry? Well, for starters, he was only twelve when he approached the rapper and was in a “group” which didn’t sit right with Diddy for some reason. Now, in the wake of the lawsuits against Diddy, Chris Brown, too, faces the wrath of the public.

Thus, he and his production manager’s son, T.J., set out to impress Diddy with their nameless group. Unfortunately for them, the rapper was simply not having any of it. While things didn’t work out for T.J. and Brown, they are still friends today. So, why didn’t Diddy, who signed and mentored a teenage Usher, say no to Brown?

Brown recalled,

Imma keep it 100. So I was like 12, at this time. This was before I linked to Def Jam. It was me and one of my production managers’ son named TJ; he’s my brother to this day. Me and him were like a group.

When asked what was the name of their group, Brown replied, “We had no name,” prompting host and rapper N.O.R.E to joke, “This is why he didn’t sign y’all.”

Regardless of Diddy turning him away, Brown clarified that everything was okay between the two stating, “It’s love now. That’s family, that’s my brother now.” Of course, it didn’t matter that Diddy didn’t believe in Brown and T.J., as he went on to make a name for himself in the industry anyway.

Apart from his celebrity status, Brown is known for his violent tendencies, especially against his ex-girlfriend, Rihanna. Back in 2009, an argument between the two escalated to the point where he caused her severe facial injuries and she had to be hospitalized. Brown turned himself in and a few months later, he pleaded guilty to felony assault.

Fast forward to recent times, a new documentary titled Chris Brown: A History of Violence talks about the lawsuit made against the musician in 2022. The woman, who identifies as Jane Doe, is seen in the documentary talking about her time with Brown (via PEOPLE).

According to the lawsuit, the Jane Doe was s-xually assaulted by Brown on Diddy’s yacht. She was looking to sue the singer for twenty million dollars but when Brown denied the allegations and showed proof (text messages and voicemails), the lawsuit was dropped.

Now, in the upcoming documentary, the woman recalled her meeting with Brown stating that he handed her a drink and she later started feeling her body get heavy. Brown allegedly led her to the bedroom. She continued,

I remember I did lay back and I’m like, ‘Why can’t I get up?’ Next thing I know he was on top of me and I couldn’t move and I said ‘No’ and then I felt him… next thing I knew he was inside me. I was so disgusted.

After a lot of therapy, she came to terms with calling it a s-xual assault. Now, one of her former lawyers, Ariel Mitchell-Kidd, is once again representing her as she believes what she said is a hundred percent true.

Chris Brown: A History of Violence will premiere on Sunday, October 27, on Investigation Discovery at 9 p.m. ET.
