The first trailer for the Michael Jackson biopic has just been released, and fans have picked up on one significant detail.
The film, aptly titled Michael, has been in production for a long time, but this is the first time we’ve actually seen footage, and the main man’s voice has caused a bit of controversy.
The Michael Jackson biopic has been years in the making
Of course, the story of Michael Jackson is a long one, with a few significant twists and turns, as well as no small amount of controversy.
However, we don’t know how much of that is going to feature in the film.
What we do know is that it will be an all-singing all-dancing retelling of the King of Pop’s career as an artist, starring his nephew Jaafar Jackson, making his feature film debut.

The film is set to moonwalk into cinemas on April 24 2026, after the release was delayed on a number of occasions.
A synopsis of the film reads: “The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world.
“Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before.
“This is where his story begins.”
That seems to imply that there might be a few bits of the story that aren’t going to be told, but that’s not what people have picked up on anyway.

Michael Jackson’s nephew looks and sounds quite a bit like the real MJ
The trailer for the film, which also stars Colman Domingo, Miles Teller, and Mia Long, was released, and already fans picked up on how much Jaafar looks like MJ, and sounds exactly like him, having clearly mastered his trademark high-pitched voice.
One comment reads: “Oh Jaafar really looks and sounds like his uncle, Michael Jackson in the trailer. It’s the voice for me.
“Close your eyes and you’ll think it’s Michael actually talking.”
Another said: “Jaafar Jackson looks and sounds so much like Michael Jackson here that it’s going to start conspiracies based on this trailer that Michael Jackson is still alive and faked his death.”
A third commented: “Jaafar does sound like his uncle Michael.
“Unless they used voice over. Still the embodiment of his bloodline. I checked vocally, Jaafar sounds exactly like Michael Jackson.”
So, if you’re interested in hearing at least some of the story of Michael Jackson’s career – the bits that they are allowed to tell anyway – you can catch it in cinemas at long last in April next year.
