Carberry, Manitoba – January 16, 2025 — A devastating accident on Thursday near Carberry, approximately 170 kilometers west of Winnipeg, claimed the lives of at least 15 individuals. The fatal crash involved a bus carrying senior citizens en route to a casino and a semi-truck at a rural intersection.
Rob Hill, the commanding officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, confirmed that 15 people died in the incident. Another 10 victims were rushed to hospital with injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
The drivers of both vehicles survived, though no official determination has been made regarding the cause of the collision. Harrowing images from the scene show overturned mobility aids and wheelchair parts lying near tarps that covered the deceased.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his sorrow and support for the grieving families and the injured. Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson also extended her condolences, calling the event a heartbreaking tragedy for the province.
