In 2009, 24-year-old Gregory McCalium broke into the home of 72-year-old Frank Corti, a retired boxer and former Royal Engineers soldier, in Oxford, England.
McCalium was armed with a six-inch knife and attempted to rob the elderly couple. However, Corti used his boxing skills to defend himself and his wife, landing a right hook and a jab that left McCalium with a black eye and a swollen lip. Corti then restrained McCalium until the police arrived. McCalium was later convicted of aggravated burglary and sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.
This incident highlights how individuals with specialized skills, such as boxing, can effectively protect themselves and others in harmful situations.
