A woman named Larisa recently shared her very first attempt at reviving old furniture — and the results were nothing short of amazing. She took a tired, scratched-up chair (a longtime favorite of her cat’s claws!) and completely transformed it into a stylish, tufted showpiece with a modern flair.

She began by carefully measuring and marking the plywood seat to prep for a tufted design. Then, she sanded the entire chair to strip away old paint and smooth out imperfections. After wiping off the dust, she applied a coat of primer and lightly sanded it again to create a smooth, flawless surface.
Next came the spray paint, which gave the chair a clean, even finish. With the frame looking fresh, Larisa turned her attention to the seat. To achieve the classic tufted effect, she used a layer of foam and mesh to guide where the buttons would go.
She then secured the fabric and added buttons to bring the tufted look to life. Decorative upholstery tacks along the edges added an extra polished touch.
For the final flourish, Larisa gave the chair’s back a touch of elegance using molded polymer clay. She shaped intricate patterns with the help of molds, glued them in place with epoxy, and finished them with acrylic paint for a custom look.
The transformation was complete—and absolutely stunning! But funny enough, Larisa didn’t even get to enjoy it first. Her cat quickly claimed the new chair as her own, loving its upgraded comfort and look. Larisa laughed it off and promised to make another one for herself soon.
