A Missouri newsreader has recently gone viral for her responses to the inappropriate comments she often gets about her appearance.
Carissa Codel, an anchor on an early-morning TV show, has started to post videos where she sarcastically reads out troll’s comments about her height and weight, to play them at their own game.
Well, that’s one way to get back at the trolls.
The videos have exploded across social media – gaining Codel 222,000 followers on Instagram and a further 117,000 on TikTok.
The hilarious video responses to the troll comments
In a now-long-ranging series across her Instagram and TikTok accounts, Codel reads out some of the insulting messages she’s received from trolls.
In one notable clip, she actually turns the tables on a troll, quoting; “‘Sources say there is enough cake for a triplet’s birthday party…’ but unfortunately for Josh he won’t be getting a slice.”
She adds in another: “You look like you could survive a harsh winter.”
One memorable video sees Codel intone an insult in her to-camera voice, simply saying: “Fee-fi fo…yum!”
What does Carissa Codel think about the troll videos?
Talking to The New York Post, Codel says that the comments “don’t affect me at all,” although she does refrain from posting some that are truly insulting or mean.
“I like the insults that are very creative,” she said, “My family is very thick-skinned. I’ve never been bothered by a lot of it.”
A recent weight-loss journey which has seen the journalist lose 55 pounds, have also made Codel reflect humorously on a lot of the comments regarding her weight.
“You think I’m big now?” She went on. “You should have seen me back then!”
Codel also told the Post that initially she worried about what consequences the videos would have for her career, but now she’s sure of the positive impact they’ve had on her relationship with viewers.
“[Now] I think they see me as a genuine person,” she added, “instead of just a reporter.”
