Carissa Codel Claps Back At Haters By Reading Viewer Comments In Her News Anchor Voice

Missouri morning news anchor Carissa Codel has gone viral thanks to the playful videos she posts where she reads troll comments about her body in her polished broadcaster voice. Her over-the-top delivery makes each clip even funnier, especially when the comments take aim at her curves in a dramatic way.

“Dayuum Gurl, I want you to put a hurting on me like you do those midnight snacks,” she intoned in one cheeky video, leaning into the moment with full anchor energy.

“You look like you could survive a harsh winter,” Codel, 26, who anchors “Ozark’s First” morning news on Fox 49, read in another, proving she isn’t shy about repeating even the boldest remarks.

Codel, who stands at 5’3″ and weighs 180 pounds, shared that she began making these videos in August, and they gained traction fast. One of her October clips racked up 5 million views on Instagram, where she has built an audience of 222,000 followers who look forward to each new post.

She’s also gained major traction on TikTok, where she has 116,400 followers and growing, showing that viewers enjoy her humor across platforms.

“Sources say there is enough cake for a triplet’s birthday party — but unfortunately for Josh, he won’t be getting a slice,” she said in the clip, flipping the original insult into something funny and sharp.

The Show-Me State newscaster said the idea for these videos came after she noticed she was getting a wave of unusually bold viewer comments — including one that described her as “built for breeding,”, which made her laugh out loud when she first read it.

Her silly, unfiltered reels have since attracted attention across the country, and she said they have unexpectedly boosted her profile.

Even though the comments can be harsh, Codel, who started working in news at just 18, said she handles them with ease and refuses to let them shake her confidence.

“It doesn’t affect me at all. I think that they’re hilarious. . . . I don’t put up the extremely mean ones, but I like the insults that are very creative,” she said. “My family is very thick-skinned, I’ve never been bothered by a lot of that.”

She added that her fitness journey — during which she lost 55 pounds over the last three years — has helped her feel more grounded when she sees critical comments, making them sting far less than they once might have.

“I find it so funny, like, ‘Oh you think I’m big now, you should have seen me back then.'”

“I know who I am, and I know what I look like,” she said.

She also noted that not all comments are negative. Some viewers take a more flirtatious route, especially when reacting to her confidence and appearance.

While the comments can be brutal, Codel, who got her start in the news business at the age of 18, said she takes them all in stride.CarissaCodelTV/Instagram

“Fe fi foe yum,” one commenter wrote.

“Brick wall, more like brick house, and I’m looking to move in,” said another.

“She gots enough muffin tops to start two bakeries,” another chimed in, adding to the long list of colorful remarks she’s received.

At first, Codel admitted she worried that sharing so many humorous videos might make viewers take her less seriously as a journalist. However, the opposite happened. Her clips helped people see a more genuine and relatable side of her, which only strengthened her connection with her audience, she told The Post.

“I think they see me as a more genuine person,” she said, “instead of just a reporter.”
