Jake Paul Handed An Indefinite Boxing Ban After Sharing Health Update Following Jaw-Breaking KO Loss To Anthony Joshua

It appears that Jake Paul will not be stepping back into the boxing ring anytime soon following his most recent fight.

Paul faced Anthony Joshua on December 19 and managed to last six rounds against the former heavyweight champion before being knocked out in the sixth.

The heavy knockout left Paul with a fractured jaw, which later required surgery to repair the damage.

Speaking shortly after the fight, Paul said: “Anthony’s a great fighter, I got my a** beat, but that’s what this sport’s about. I think my jaw is broken by the way.”

“Yeah, it’s definitely broke,” Paul continued. “But man, that was good. A nice little a** whipping from one of the best to ever do it.”

“I love this so I’m going to come back and get a world championship belt at some point.”

Following the injury, doctors fitted titanium plates into his jaw and removed several teeth as part of the treatment.

In a health update shared on December 21, Paul revealed that he was restricted to a liquid-only diet for seven days. That meant the 28-year-old was unlikely to enjoy a normal Christmas meal.

He has since shared another update, explaining that his recovery has also affected his sleep.

“I got four plates in my jaw but that’s part of the sport. The healing process has been a little bit tough,” Paul told DAZN, via The Sun.

He added: “I’m a little bit tired, it’s hard to sleep, I go onto the pillow and then my jaw twerks up to the left and I wake up so.”

“It’s all part of the sport and it was an amazing night and I learned a lot, gained a lot of experience and we’re moving onto more fights this year,” he said.

Although Paul has spoken about returning to boxing later this year, he is currently facing an indefinite boxing ban due to the seriousness of his injuries. Joshua, known as AJ, was also recently involved in a tragic car crash that claimed the lives of two of his friends.

According to MMA Sports, Paul has been issued a medical suspension and is not allowed to compete again until a physician clears him.

The Florida Athletic Commission confirmed the medical suspension to the outlet on Sunday, January 4.

While speaking on his brother Logan Paul’s podcast, the 28-year-old reflected on the moment the fight began to slip away from him.

He said: “It was just mental. It was just like him imposing his will on me, and being massive, and the big shots landing. Then yeah, it pretty much all goes downhill from there.”

The younger Paul brother also admitted that his biggest mistake was failing to complete altitude training ahead of the bout.
