Gary Sinise Announces His Son Mac Has Died Aged 33

Gary Sinise has shared the devastating news that his son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, has died at the age of 33 after a long battle with cancer. The announcement carried the quiet weight of a family that had lived with illness for years, balancing hope and heartbreak as Mac faced a rare and aggressive form of cancer affecting the spine and skull base.

Mac was diagnosed in August 2018, only months after his mother, Moira, began treatment for stage three breast cancer. While she recovered, Mac’s condition worsened. He endured multiple surgeries, lost mobility, and was eventually paralyzed from the waist down. Despite this, those close to him say he met each setback with determination rather than despair.

Even as his physical world narrowed, Mac continued to create. He collaborated closely with the Gary Sinise Foundation, focused deeply on music, and performed as a drummer alongside his father in the Lt. Dan Band, turning shared performances into a source of connection and expression. Before his passing, he completed an album titled Resurrection & Revival, which his family plans to release as a reflection of endurance rather than defeat.

Tributes poured in from across the entertainment community, including messages from Angie Harmon and Alyssa Milano. Mac Sinise was laid to rest on January 5, leaving behind a legacy defined not by the length of his life, but by the strength, creativity, and purpose with which he lived it.
