Judge Frank Caprio will be fondly remembered for the kindness and compassion he exhibited during his rulings, which were showcased on the television show Caught in Providence.

Caprio, affectionately known as “The Nicest Judge in the World,” became a viral sensation due to his warmth, humor, and his remarkable ability to see the good in others. Millions of viewers tuned in to watch his televised rulings, where he often chose to offer grace, encouragement, and second chances instead of imposing harsh penalties.

In August of last year, his  family announced the sad news that the 88-year-old had passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

In their tribute, they highlighted these admirable qualities: “He will be remembered not only as a respected judge but also as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.”

Having built a reputation as a kind and understanding judge, Caprio attracted a large following online. Many of his fans are now looking back on his good deeds as they visit his social media pages to express their condolences.

Even after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2023, Caprio continued to show optimism and bravery, telling his followers (on his birthday, no less): “I know this is a long road, and I’m fully prepared to fight as hard as I can.”

He started his treatment journey in Rhode Island and Massachusetts before moving to Florida for further care, following a friend’s recommendation.

Caprio went through six months of chemotherapy and five rounds of radiation, which he described to People as being quite “debilitating.”

As his health declined, Caprio kept the public informed with updates. His final photo, shared on his Instagram, showed him smiling from a hospital bed while giving a thumbs-up. The caption expressed his gratitude to supporters for their prayers, love, and encouragement.

Judge Caprio wishes to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your prayers, love, and support while he is in the hospital,” the post reads.

Your kindness and support mean everything to him. He and his family are truly thankful. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers today.

When he retired in October 2023 after almost 40 years of service, Caprio confessed to feeling unsure about what life would be like after leaving the bench.

However, he later offered a profound insight: “Although I miss being on the bench and listening to all your incredible stories, I am constantly reminded that my legacy continues, and that is the most invaluable gift of all. So remember, even if one door closes, don’t hesitate to open the next one and discover what life has in store for you.”
