Mom issues warning after 10-year-old son collapses after playing in the ocean

Nothing beats a beach day for cooling off from the scorching heat, but a Massachusetts mom found out the hard way that the shore has its own share of risks.

She is now eager to alert others.

Heather Cassini admitted that she’s still feeling the impact of the scare, even though it happened more than a week ago.

Out of nowhere, while enjoying a day at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire with her family on July 4, Cassini, 40, was taken by surprise when her 10-year-old son Declan suddenly complained of not feeling well.

Initially, Cassini didn’t seem worried. The sun was scorching, and Declan had been frolicking in the sea.

Cassini mentioned on a widely shared Facebook post that she felt the breakfast was overwhelming for the waves and that he needed to rest. When they began to return so Declan could rest, he suddenly felt confused and fell onto a sunbather.

He managed to get back on his feet, only to falter and fall once more.

“I’m expecting a baby and desperately attempting to lift him,” Cassini shared with Today.com. “He’s drifting in and out of consciousness, throwing up, and he looked so pale.”

Nearby, a group of women sprang into action upon witnessing the commotion. Paramedics quickly assessed his vitals and focused on maintaining his consciousness and body temperature.

She expressed her gratitude, saying, “May God bless everyone in our midst. We were surrounded by countless nurses.”

Cassini penned down, “It seemed like forever before he finally got up and started conversing. We patiently waited for him to recover before helping him into the car.”

Declan was found to have hypothermia due to the 52-degree ocean water.

Cassini expressed surprise, “I never imagined this could happen. You always think about sunburns and dehydration in the water, but cold shock never crossed my mind.”

Cassini is eager to alert everyone about the risks of hypothermia during the summer now that Declan has made a full recovery.

Attention parents of water-loving, cold-resistant kids: don’t assume they can handle everything just because they seem invincible. Keep an eye on them!
