There once was a young man named Will who developed feelings for a girl named Eddy. The issue was that Eddy’s parents disapproved of their relationship because they thought Will was impoverished.
They had no idea that Sam, Will’s father, was a multimillionaire with a cunning scheme to teach them the value of moral character.
Sam created an unbreakable engine sealant years ago that completely changed the business. He had no idea that the money he made from his invention would eventually affect his son’s romantic life.
The Sutton family’s life drastically changed after he patented his idea. They bought new cars, moved into a lovely home, and took advantage of all the conveniences that money could provide. Sam, however, was always concerned with giving his wife, Rain, and their small son, Will, a happy life, even though they had millions.

Their wealth increased over time, but tragedy also occurred. Despite Sam’s wealth, nothing could save Rain when she became very ill. Sam saw firsthand that neither health nor love could be purchased with money. Sam was devastated by Rain’s passing and was attempting to raise Will alone.
Sam gave his son all he could afford because he was determined to be the best father possible. But by the time Will got to high school, it was obvious that not everyone saw him for who he really was.
Will’s money piqued the interest of his peers more than his generosity. The girls surrounding him were drawn to his family’s wealth rather than his charm or charisma.
Will told his father about his suffering one evening. He had fallen for a girl who, as it turned out, was more interested in private jets and opulent trips than he was.
Sam urged his son to break things off. Will thought of a scheme that evening.
“Dad, I want everyone to believe that I’m attending Yale on a scholarship.” Will remarked, “I don’t want anyone to know about our money.”
Sam was taken aback. “A scholarship? Will, though, why?
“Because if people think I’m poor, they won’t befriend me unless they truly like me,” Will clarified. And I’ll know that a girl is drawn to me because of who I am, not our fortune.
Sam accepted the plan since he respected his son’s intelligence. When Will left for Yale, he lived simply and brought just used clothing. Will appeared to everyone around him to be just another struggling student. The plan was a complete success.
In his junior year, Will fell in love with a girl named Eddy, short for Edwina, after making sincere friends. Despite her belief that Will lacked fortune, Eddy loved him for who he was.
Eddy accepted Will’s proposal, and he was overjoyed. But when Will met Eddy’s parents, everything was different.
Farlow and Marta were wealthy and socially fixated. Instead of a student with minimal resources, they wanted their daughter to marry a wealthy person. They were courteous to Will, but their contempt was clear.
In an effort to strengthen their bond, Eddy invited Will and Sam to her family’s Christmas celebration and proudly displayed the simple engagement ring Will had given her.
Horrified, Marta and Farlow reluctantly agreed, covertly preparing to make the visit as unpleasant as possible.
Farlow, Eddy’s father, looked at Sam, who was wearing secondhand clothing, and laughed to himself when he and Will got off the bus.
Marta and Farlow often made fun of Sam’s seeming lack of wealth during the visit, emphasizing their affluence and superiority whenever possible. They obviously thought their daughter should have a more opulent lifestyle than Will could offer, and they even offered Will a brand-new Porsche as a much-anticipated wedding present.
They had no idea that Sam had his own scheme.
Sam gave Eddy an envelope on Christmas Eve as everyone gathered around the tree to exchange presents.
Still pleased with the Porsche, Farlow made fun of Sam, thinking the envelope included something trivial.
“What is this? A list of impoverished people’s shelters? Farlow chuckled.
However, Eddy’s eyes grew wide with shock when she opened the letter.
The deed to a Tribeca, New York home, a lavish wedding present from Sam to his son and prospective daughter-in-law, was found within.
“Is this accurate, Sam?” With incredulity in her voice, Eddy said.
Eddy glanced to her parents in shock as Will hugged his dad.
“Sam has given us a lovely house in New York.”
Farlow and Marta could not speak. They had never considered Sam to be a multimillionaire; instead, they had made assumptions about him based on his humble appearance and straightforward way of life.
“But… you’re poor,” whimpered Farlow. You arrived via bus.
Sam calmly grinned.
“I wanted to ensure that Will is loved not for the $570 million he will inherit, but for who he is.”
There were no more objections to the marriage after that. In reality, Marta and Farlow treated Sam with a renewed sense of respect and turned into Will’s strongest allies.
The next summer, Will and Eddy were married and settled into their lovely new house. In remembrance of Will’s late mother, they welcomed a daughter called Rain three years later.
In order to stay close to his family, Sam purchased a house nearby.
