At 61, Meg Ryan makes rare public appearance, sparks debate

Meg Ryan made her first public appearance in six months to show her support for Michael J. Fox ahead of the release of a new documentary about his fight with Parkinson’s disease.

At 61, Ryan has chosen to step back from the public eye in recent years, making her absence notable. According to the Daily Mirror, she attended a screening of Michael J. Fox’s upcoming film, STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie, to stand by her friend.

The two were photographed together, looking cheerful, but fans quickly commented on Ryan’s altered appearance, with some saying she looked “unrecognizable.”

The star of Sleepless in Seattle, who first appeared on screen in Rich and Famous (1981), showcased an exceptionally smooth complexion, sparking speculation about possible plastic surgery, despite her past denials.

Many took to social media to express their less-than-flattering views on Meg’s new look, reigniting a discussion she has previously addressed.

One Twitter user remarked, “This is Meg Ryan. Hopefully, women will learn from this. Plastic surgery is for Frankenstein.”

Another user added, “Meg Ryan spent thousands to make herself unrecognizable and hideous.”

A third person commented, “What did she do to herself? These Hollywood elites overdo the plastic surgery. Get a refund.”

“Wtf has Meg Ryan done to her face?!” another user exclaimed.

Ryan has previously emphasized that she doesn’t give much thought to those who share negative views about her looks.

During a 2015 interview with Porter Magazine, she candidly discussed the speculation surrounding plastic surgery.

“I honestly don’t pay much attention,” she remarked at that time. “There’s so much negativity in the world today. It’s really easy to judge. Just think about it—being a hater is pretty foolish.”

At the screening mentioned earlier, which took place at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, New York, the actress appeared to be in high spirits as she took photos alongside Billy Murray and Elvis Costello during Michael J. Fox’s special evening.

Michael Fox, who recently admitted he never expected to reach the age of 80, is set to release a new documentary that highlights his life over the past thirty years since his diagnosis.

The beloved star of Back to the Future was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the young age of 29. Although he initially tried to keep his condition under wraps, he has since emerged as a prominent advocate for increased awareness and research into the disease.

In a heartfelt recent interview, Fox openly discussed his thoughts on mortality, sharing that his ongoing struggle with Parkinson’s is becoming increasingly challenging.

“I’m not gonna lie. It’s gettin’ hard, it’s gettin’ harder. It’s gettin’ tougher,” the retired actor expressed. “Every day it’s tougher. But, but, that’s, that’s the way it is. I mean, you know, who do I see about that?”

He mentioned that he recently underwent spinal surgery after a tumor was discovered on his spine. Although the tumor was benign, it impacted his ability to walk, and he suffered injuries from a fall.

“I broke both of my arms, my elbow, my face, and my hand,” Fox shared.

“You don’t die from Parkinson’s; you die with it. I’ve been reflecting on the reality of that. … I won’t reach 80. I won’t reach 80.”

What are your thoughts on Meg Ryan’s appearance? Should people really have the right to comment on her looks and make judgments? We’d love to hear your opinions in the comments!

In the meantime, let’s send our love and prayers to Michael J. Fox!
