Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputies rushed to the scene of a traffic fatality on Riverwatch Parkway on Monday evening.

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims as 23-year-old Devon Briggs, of Buena Vista, Ga., and 22-year-old Evelyn Plakal, of Elgin, S.C.

Deputies rushed to the scene of a traffic fatality on Riverwatch Parkway on Monday evening.

The crash was reported around 6 p.m. Monday on westbound Riverwatch at mile marker 2 near Goodrich Street, which is in view of the old Confederate Power Works chimney.

Deputies said the vehicle traveled off the roadway and down an embankment toward Goodrich Street.

A preliminary investigation found that the crash happened on April 18.

Deputies say the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed when it left the north shoulder while navigating a curve.

As a result, the vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned.

Briggs, the driver, was ejected from the vehicle, and Plakal was located inside the vehicle.

Both were pronounced dead on the scene at 5:56 p.m., according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.
