This Construction Zone Was Supposedly Empty — Until A Fluffy Face Appeared

Earlier this month, a Los Angeles County resident did a double take while passing a neighboring house. The home had been vacated while under construction, but someone new was on the premises — a small, fluffy head peered out from the foundation.

When the Good Samaritan contacted a local rescue, Logan’s Legacy 29, for help, founder Suzette Hall rushed to the neighborhood with her trusted volunteer, Mary Nakiso. As they pulled up to the house, their hearts sank at the realization that the dog was young and completely alone.

“She is just a puppy, about 10 weeks old,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “This was no way to start off her life.”

The team looked around for the puppy’s siblings or mother, but had no such luck. As they approached the house, they realized just how the sweet girl had been surviving on her own.

“She would come out for food and water that a neighbor had left there,” Hall wrote. “Under the house was a blanket for her to sleep on.”

Sadly, just as Hall and Nakiso started closing in on the dog, she bolted from beneath the house. They set humane dog traps around the property with enticing treats and waited for her to return. After hours of waiting with no signs of the puppy, they finally discovered where she’d run to.

“I decided to check the backyard, and under piles of metal, I saw her little face looking out,” Hall wrote.

With the help of a compassionate neighbor, Hall and Nakiso removed the metal from the pup’s back one piece at a time. When they finally uncovered the pup, she was even more shaken up than before.

“[She] was shaking and scared,” Hall wrote.

Hall scooped the puppy up and showered her with loving words before placing her in the humane dog trap. Finally, the little orphaned puppy, later named Savannah, would get the chance to sleep inside a cozy, warm home instead of beneath one.

At Camino Pet Hospital, Savannah received a clean bill of health and was quickly matched with a loving foster home through Second Leash On Life.

Little Savannah is still on the hunt for a forever family, but until then, she’ll continue to soak up all the love she’s always deserved and recover from her scary, lonely past.

“[She was] just a tiny little puppy trying to survive under a house all alone,” Hall wrote.
