Clearly in distress and with significant injuries, it was evident that he had been hit by a car four days earlier, yet no one had come to his aid.
The dog’s leg was infested with maggots, and his condition was dire. Despite this, his eyes resembled those of a little arctic fox, earning him the name Axl, inspired by his Scandinavian-like appearance.
Though Axl whimpered due to his pain, he calmed down with gentle handling. The rescuers quickly transported him to a veterinarian clinic, seeking pain relief for the suffering animal.
In preparation for possible treatments, they examined Axl’s blood and started an IV. X-rays revealed a damaged spine, and to further complicate his situation, Axl was also plagued by ants.
The rescuers painstakingly removed the maggots and ants one by one to ease his discomfort. Despite appearing unconscious, Axl’s response to food demonstrated his will to survive.
Hoping for a positive outcome, the rescuers remained cautiously optimistic about Axl’s recovery journey, though they knew it would be challenging.
Encouragingly, Axl was managing to eat and drink, signaling some improvement. However, by the next morning, his health had taken a downturn—he appeared pale and agitated.
Concerned about his worsening condition, the rescuers quickly returned him to the clinic for additional tests and a blood transfusion.
Sadly, his blood test results had deteriorated compared to when he was first found. Nevertheless, the blood transfusion was successful, thanks to a generous donor named Sinead.
Released from the clinic earlier than expected, Axl returned to the shelter to continue healing. The resilient dog, affectionately dubbed the little snow fox, was now able to sit up on his own—a significant step in his recovery.
