A heartwarming rescue unfolded when a dedicated animal rescuer discovered a dog named Dolly caring for not just her own puppies, but also those from two other litters.
The extraordinary tale began when Mitzi Brogdon, president and director of Street Dog Rescue & Recovery, was driving down a road and noticed a brown-furred dog with a pleading expression.
Compelled to stop and help, Brogdon approached the dog she affectionately named Dolly.
Brogdon told The Dodo about her initial encounter with Dolly, recalling how the dog seemed to urgently seek affection. However, it quickly became apparent that more than just attention was needed.

As Brogdon followed Dolly, the dog led her to a nearby cell tower where an astonishing scene unfolded: 16 puppies emerged from behind a fallen log, revealing the extent of Dolly’s nurturing responsibility.
An experienced rescuer, Brogdon was nonetheless taken aback by the sheer number of puppies. “I’m used to seeing dogs everywhere in Oklahoma, but having so many at once was a shock,” she shared.
Further investigation revealed that Dolly had been caring for a mix of puppies from three different litters, acting as a devoted guardian and ensuring their safety and shelter.
In light of this discovery, Brogdon sought assistance to house the sizeable family of 17. With their numbers being too great for a single shelter, the dogs were distributed among four facilities, each providing excellent care.
As the puppies undergo their vaccination programs, they await the day they will find their forever homes.
While the puppies have already attracted considerable interest, Brogdon expressed particular concern for Dolly, hoping prospective adopters will consider offering this deserving older dog a loving family.
“She is just as eager for a family,” Brogdon emphasized, highlighting Dolly’s equal need for a home filled with love.
