Dogs hold a special place in our hearts as beloved family members, yet not all of them are fortunate enough to enjoy a good life. Such was the case for a bulldog puppy who found herself eating leaves just to survive.
Suffering from a severe skin disease called mange, she had lost almost all of her fur. Her situation seemed bleak until a group called Slaughterhouse Survivors stepped in to help.
Upon discovering the puppy’s dire condition, the team quickly intervened. The puppy, who came to be known as Pumpkin, had lost all hope after spending days struggling on the streets.
Thanks to timely intervention, she was taken to a medical center for urgent care.
At the center, veterinarians confirmed that Pumpkin faced a life-threatening battle with mange, which had left her skin badly infected and her body temperature dangerously low—so low, in fact, that it couldn’t even be measured with a thermometer.
Without immediate help, she wouldn’t have survived much longer.
Medical staff went to work, providing Pumpkin with antibiotics, pain relief, and intravenous fluids. They also administered warm saline through an IV to bring her body temperature back to normal.
Slowly but surely, Pumpkin responded to the treatment, showing signs of improvement.
Once she had beaten a bout of flu and resumed eating, the journey toward recovery began in earnest.
Veterinarians carefully removed the layers of scaly skin from her body, and she started resembling more of a cheerful puppy than her past, hippo-like appearance.
With successful eye surgery and consistent medicinal baths, Pumpkin’s fur began to grow back.
Pumpkin’s journey didn’t stop there. A rescue organization in Los Angeles found her a loving, permanent home. She was welcomed into her new family in California and received a fresh start with a new name—Kennedy.
Kennedy now enjoys sunny days at the beach, enjoys peanut butter, and relishes playful moments with her dog sister.
Kennedy thrives in her new environment, happy to belong and cherished by her family. Thanks to the devoted rescuers who never gave up on her, a once struggling little bulldog now has a bright future filled with love and joy.
