When Terra was first rescued, she was almost hairless and quite fearful, primarily due to neglect from her previous owners.
This neglect led to a skin condition that left the poor puppy in need of considerable care and without any understanding of human affection.
Luckily, a kind-hearted veterinary professional from West Sussex, England, stepped up to help Terra on her journey to recovery.

Terra’s hair loss was caused by mange, a painful skin disorder triggered by mites that often leaves animals hairless and with sore-covered skin.
Jessie DeFreitas, a veterinary assistant at the clinic, was immediately drawn to Terra’s “beautiful eyes” and understood that Terra’s skin conditions resulted from her experience with a careless family.
Despite already having four cats and a rescue dog at home, Jessie felt she could provide a safe and nurturing environment for Terra. After all, if Terra hadn’t been brought to the vet, she might not have survived.

Jessie initially intended only to foster the young dog, whom she had temporarily named Honey. She quickly realized that the name didn’t quite fit Terra’s grumpy demeanor and lack of playful behavior, so she renamed her Terra.
Over time, as Terra’s mange began to heal, she became more affectionate, her hair grew back into a beautiful mix of brown and white, and her personality softened significantly.

Despite balancing the care of numerous pets, Jessie was thrilled to welcome Terra into her permanent family. Her deep love for animals made it impossible to turn the needy puppy away.
Although Terra was initially meant to be a temporary foster, Jessie officially adopted her, ensuring Terra would always have a caring and loving home.
While Terra’s story concluded on a high note thanks to Jessie’s compassionate care, not all neglected puppies are as fortunate. Terra’s journey serves as a reminder of the importance of advocating for all animals in need.
