School teacher arrested in brutal killing of parents in state park

After a tense five-day manhunt, Arkansas police captured 28-year-old Andrew James McGann, accused of brutally murdering Clinton and Cristen Brink during a family hike at Devil’s Den State Park. The horrifying attack was witnessed by the couple’s two young daughters, ages 7 and 9, who are now orphaned and traumatized.

The Brinks had recently moved to Prairie Grove for a fresh start. On July 26, during a hike, their daughters were found alone, reporting their parents had been assaulted. Police later discovered both Clinton and Cristen had been stabbed to death along the trail.

Investigators believe Cristen made a heroic final choice—leading her daughters to safety before returning to help her husband. “We believe the mother took them to safety and then returned,” said Maj. Stacie Rhoads of the Arkansas State Police.

The Brink family called the couple “loving parents” who “died heroes.” A GoFundMe campaign to support funeral costs described the tragedy as a “senseless and cruel” act, and by August 1, nearly \$57,000 had been raised.

McGann was arrested at a Springdale hair salon, one day after police released a composite sketch that led to nationwide tips. Authorities do not believe he was trying to change his appearance.

Shockingly, McGann was a recently hired teacher candidate in Arkansas. He had passed all background checks and worked as a teacher in Oklahoma until May 2025, leaving many stunned by his alleged actions.

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders praised law enforcement, stating, “If you target innocent people, Arkansas law enforcement will hunt you down.” Officials say the attack appears random, with no known connection between McGann and the victims.

As the community mourns, Clinton and Cristen are remembered for their love, courage, and ultimate sacrifice. Their bravery has left a lasting mark on all who hear their story.
