This is not a drill: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged! Yes, you’re reading that correctly, all of Swiftie’s prayers have been answered because they’re going to get married. On Aug 28, the Life of a Showgirl songstress and Kelce shared pics of their engagement to their Instagrams with the caption reading, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.”
In the photos, we see Kelce on his knee, with Swift holding onto him as they’re in a field of white and pink roses. We also get a pic of the two looking lovingly into each other’s eyes, as well as of her engagement ring, and of them cuddling and kissing.
Now, to the untrained eye, this all may seem like a fairytale-esque proposal (which it is), but there’s so much more to it: it’s all paying homage to her Lover era.
First things first, the sea of white and pink roses is classic Lover, with the aesthetic matching her soft, romantic, hopeful time from that era. Not only that, but them announcing it today, on Aug 26, is quite significant.
On Aug 26, 2019, Swift delivered her first televised performance since the release of her album Lover at the MTV Video Music Awards, marking her high-profile return to the spotlight. So, the Queen of Easter eggs and symbolism has done it again; and fans are freaking out!
For those who don’t know, Kelce and Swift have been dating since July 2023, but didn’t make their romance known until months later, when Swift arrived at one of his games. (Kelce even talked about his crush on her on his podcast with his brother months prior to her going to one of his games.)
Then, about a week ago, insiders claimed to Us Weekly that this summer was a game-changer, saying: “This time together solidified Taylor knowing that she wants to be with Travis forever. They want to be married and have kids in the future. They’re both genuinely ready for that chapter.”
