The despair in his eyes was clear. “Please, I’m begging you,” he said, his voice trembling. “I’m trying to get to my daughter. She’s sick, and I have to take her to the hospital. Please.” It struck me deeply—I couldn’t imagine being so helpless, especially with a sick child waiting for him. Without thinking too much, I took a deep breath and handed the bus workers my money. “I’LL PAY HIS FINE!” I said. I knew it was the right thing to do.
