Late-Night Calls from My Mother-in-Law Nearly Drove Us Crazy—Until This Happened

After the wedding, my husband and I enjoyed a quiet, cozy life in our apartment. Everything was perfect… until one strange phone call in the middle of the night.

At 2:00 a.m., the phone rang. My husband woke up before me, picked up the receiver, and turned pale.

— Mom… are you okay? — he muttered.

She only asked:

— Son, are you asleep? Is everything alright?

It was odd, but we thought maybe she wasn’t feeling well or couldn’t sleep. I even felt a little sorry for her.

But the next night, the call came again. Same time — 2:00 a.m. She whispered almost the same words:

— Son, are you asleep? I just wanted to check if you’re alright.

We started to get angry. We were exhausted, my husband couldn’t focus at work, and I was losing patience.

On the third night, I suggested turning the phones off. But at 2:30 a.m.… the doorbell rang. She was standing there — barefoot, in her nightgown, looking completely calm.

— I couldn’t reach you… and I got scared, she said, stepping inside.

This went on for more than a week. Nights became unbearable. We begged her to stop, but nothing worked. I even yelled at her once, but she just smiled.

And then, when we finally discovered the real reason behind her late-night calls… we were horrified. 😨

One night, we turned the phones off again, desperate for rest. To our surprise, she didn’t show up. The next morning, I woke up well-rested and happy for the first time in days.

Later that day, we decided to check on her. When we opened her apartment door, a strange smell hit us. She was lying in her chair — dead. The phone was in her hand. It was turned off.

The time of death? Around 2:00 a.m.

That’s when it struck us: the calls had stopped only because she was no longer able to make them. She must have felt it coming… she was terrified of dying alone. And we, in our anger, ignored her.

💔 Always answer your parents’ calls. Sometimes, it might be their last one.
