After 40 years in education, First Lady Jill Biden has officially ended her teaching career. She recently announced during a virtual event that she had taught her final class at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), where she worked as an English and writing professor for 15 years.

Speaking alongside education union leaders, she said, “Being your First Lady has been the honor of my life. But being your colleague has been the work of my life.” Even during her time in the White House, she remained the first First Lady to teach full-time while serving.

NOVA President Anne Kress praised Biden’s impact, calling her an “exceptional faculty member” who inspired both students and staff. Biden’s legacy at NOVA and community colleges nationwide remains strong.

Her teaching journey began in 1976 and spanned high schools, hospitals, and community colleges. Though she’s stepping back, it’s unclear if she’ll return in any educational role in the future.
