Brett Kissel and his wife, Cecilia, have announced that they are ending their marriage after nearly 15 years together. The longtime couple shared the news through a joint Instagram post, accompanied by a handwritten letter explaining their decision.
The letter opened with honesty and care, stating that after deep reflection and soul-searching, they realized they are no longer meant to remain married. They emphasized that the choice was made thoughtfully and with love, not impulsively or lightly.
They also reassured fans that there is no cause for concern when it comes to their family. The pair made it clear they remain fully committed to co-parenting their four children and maintaining a strong, respectful friendship moving forward.
“We look to our future with optimism, with love, and with great respect for one another,” the message concluded.
In the post’s caption, Brett and Cecilia revealed that they have actually been privately separated for the past year and a half and are doing well as a family. They thanked fans for their ongoing support and understanding and gently asked for continued kindness and privacy as they navigate this new season of life.
“Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we move forward,” they wrote. “We would greatly appreciate your kindness and ask that you respect our family’s privacy. With love, Brett & Cece.”
Brett has often spoken openly about how their love story began. He first met Cecilia in 2008 when he was just 17 years old, performing at a rodeo concert. Despite their young age, Brett has described the moment as love at first sight.
What started as a friendship quickly grew into something deeper, and by the end of that same year, Brett says he knew he wanted to spend his life with her. He proposed in late 2009 at just 19 years old, and she said yes.
“We were young, sure,” Brett later reflected, “but I knew. She knew. It felt right.”
The couple married in 2011 and went on to welcome four children together: daughters Mila, 9, and Aria, 8, along with sons Leo, 6, and Atlas, 3.
Throughout Brett’s career, Cecilia—now an influencer and blogger—was a constant presence by his side, traveling with him as he pursued his music dreams. Their relationship also served as inspiration for several of his songs, including Red Carpet, Ten Years From Now, and the deeply personal track Cecilia.
Despite the personal challenges, Brett continues to pour himself into his music. Fans recently heard some of his strongest songwriting yet on Farmer, featuring Lee Brice, which followed the release of his deluxe project Let Your Horses Run – The Album earlier this year.
Brett has one remaining headlining show scheduled before joining Lee Brice as a special guest on select dates of the Sunriser Tour beginning in August. He will close out 2025 with a New Year’s Eve performance at the Silent Ice Center in Nisku, Alberta.
As they step into this next chapter, Brett and Cecilia are doing so with grace, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to their family.
