The world’s oldest-ever baby has been born in Ohio to parents Lindsey and Tim Pierce.
Their son, Thaddeus Daniel Pierce, was born in London, Ohio, and in the process set a new world record as the oldest baby ever born.
Even though he’s a newborn, Thaddeus was developed from an embryo that was created back when his father, Tim, was still a toddler.
The couple “adopted” the embryo from Linda Archerd, who described the entire experience as “pretty surreal.”
Speaking to MIT Technology Review, Linda said, “It’s hard to even believe,” adding that her family and other members of her church compared it to “something from a sci-fi movie.”
Thaddeus’ embryo was created in 1994 and had been stored for more than 30 years.
Lindsey shared the astonishing detail: “The baby has a 30-year-old sister.”
Linda originally created the embryos with her husband at the time as they tried to have a baby in the early 1990s. In total, they successfully created four embryos, which ultimately allowed Linda to have a baby girl.
The remaining three embryos were kept in storage with the hope of having more children later on.
But life changed. Linda and her husband divorced, and she began going through menopause. That’s when she started exploring the idea of embryo “adoption.”
“I didn’t want them to go out of the country,” she explained. “And being Christian is very important to me, because I am.”
After trying to have a baby for more than seven years, Lindsey and Tim began looking into embryo adoption and were eventually matched with two of Linda’s embryos.
One of them became Thaddeus.
Linda said she would love to meet him, noting that he even resembles her own daughter who was born 30 years earlier.
“I wish that they didn’t live so far away from me … He is perfect!” she said. “We didn’t go into it thinking we would break any records. We just wanted to have a baby.”
