Last week, we received a distressing video from a concerned person in Romania, showing a poor greyhound that had been brutally beaten by a man. The woman who sent the video described how the man had thrown the dog into a secluded area, as if it were nothing more than trash. The poor animal was left lying there, helpless, with no one to help him. The dog was in unimaginable pain, and the wounds on his legs became so severe that they attracted flies, feeding on the exposed flesh. It was heart-wrenching to witness such cruelty.
Upon receiving the call, our team immediately sprang into action. We didn’t hesitate for a moment, and rushed to the location, but upon arriving, we found that the property was private, and the owner wasn’t home. We were forced to wait outside, with no way to help the poor hound who lay there, silently begging for help. Every moment felt like an eternity, especially as we watched the dog try in vain to swat at the flies with his mouth, helpless against their incessant presence.

The cruelty of the situation left us wondering: why would anyone treat a living being in such a manner? What would cause someone to violently abandon a dog like this, especially when there are so many other ways to let go of a pet responsibly? It was a tragedy, but we refused to give up. After waiting for three long hours, we finally received consent from the property owner to enter and care for the dog.
When we approached the hound, he acted so sweetly despite everything he had been through. His eyes were filled with pain, but there was also a glimmer of hope as he wagged his tail ever so slightly. It was as though he knew we had come to help him. As we examined him, we discovered the extent of his injuries: he had four broken legs, with his two front legs in the worst condition. His pain was evident, and it was clear that he needed immediate medical attention.

The vet quickly determined that the best course of action was to stabilize his legs with iron rods. It was a delicate procedure, but the priority was to save his life and give him the chance to heal. Despite the trauma he had endured, Tristan, as we named him, never lost his gentle spirit. Even in the face of unbearable pain, he wagged his tail, showing a glimpse of the affectionate, loving dog he had always been. His resilience was nothing short of miraculous.
Sixteen days later, Tristan had already started making incredible progress. His recovery was slow but steady, and each day he grew stronger. By the thirtieth day, Tristan had regained his independence, and was able to do many things on his own. His transformation from a broken, abandoned dog to a vibrant, happy hound was a testament to the power of love, care, and determination. We are so thankful for every step of his journey, and we will continue to help him heal, giving him the life he deserves. Tristan’s story is a reminder that no matter how difficult life can be, there is always hope, and love can change everything.
