Spending time next to your loved ones is one of life’s greatest gifts, and it’s no different in the world of dogs. This is especially true for puppies who need the closeness of their mom and siblings to thrive, learn socialization, and build confidence.
Sadly, not all pups have this privilege.
Once they arrive at a shelter or in a foster home, their chances of continuing their journey together decrease significantly. As a result, some pups get adopted into loving homes while others, like Rainbow, remain overlooked and alone.
I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of heartbreak this little girl felt when the last of her five siblings left…
Saved From Starvation
Rainbow’s life wasn’t easy, that’s for sure. She was found next to her mom, Sky, and the other five siblings in terrible condition, cut off from basic humane conditions.
A kind person who found this family contacted Main Line Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania, and the team immediately rushed to the scene. At the time, Sky, the mom, was severely malnourished. She was skin and bones, barely standing on her feet.
Yet, she remained a good mom to all six of her babies.
“Her ribs and hip bones were painfully visible, yet her focus remained solely on her babies. The undeniable love of a mother was evident in her every move, as she selflessly nurtured and protected them, even while her own strength was fading,” MLAR wrote on Facebook.
Fortunately, Sky and the puppies didn’t have to wait long. After being admitted to the shelter and undergoing vet treatment, the entire family was taken in by an amazing foster dad, Nick.
It took only a few weeks for the dogs to fully come out of their shells. Nick dedicated time and love to providing Sky and the pups with a healthy environment, and it showed.
“His care and love for this family is evident, and we couldn’t be more thankful for all he’s doing to give them the best start possible,” the rescue added.
Soon enough, all of the dogs were ready to be adopted.
Sunshine, Rain, Heaven, Thunder, Lightning, and their mom, Sky, found their forever homes in no time. However, their last furry sister, Rainbow, wasn’t that lucky. She remained the last one in foster care after no one showed interest in adopting her.
Needless to say, everyone at the shelter was heartbroken!
Rainbow Is Still Waiting
One thing is for sure: Rainbow missing a forever home is definitely not her fault. She’s as sweet as she could possibly be, a happy-go-lucky dog who loves to play, cuddle, and meet new friends.
However, being the last one in foster care isn’t a fancy situation.
“She’s the last one left. All her brothers and sisters, and her mama? They’re home. Curled up on couches. Spoiled and loved. But Rainbow is still waiting,” the Pennsylvania rescue wrote.
MLAR and Nick work together with their community to spread the word and make Rainbow’s story visible to potential adopters.
What they really hope to find for this lovely pup is a home filled with love and care. Hopefully, there is a family ready to give Rainbow a new chance at happiness as soon as possible.
Until then, this two-month-old puppy will continue to be spoiled by her foster dad with ice-cream dates, exciting car rides, and daily adventures. She sure won’t miss a thing, but seeing her in a forever home surrounded by a loving family would definitely mean the world to us all!
