Alone on the streets of New Jersey, a lonely pup named Fiddler recently found himself in need of a helping hand. Perhaps hoping someone might see him, Fiddler scrambled onto the roof of a suburban home. High above the street, he paced along the roof’s shingles, waiting for the right person to walk by.
Eventually, someone saw Fiddler and posted a photo to Facebook. When rescuers from Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge saw the post, they headed to the scene and coaxed the pup down from the rooftop.
“Speaking softly and moving slowly, we approached Fiddler with a gentle hand and quickly saw his resilient spirit,” a representative from Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge told The Dodo. “Despite his fragile state, he was full of life and immediately looking to play and be loved.”
Fiddler was just a puppy, less than a year old, and his ribs poked through his skinny frame. The rescue team got to work combing through his matted coat. They provided medical care and made a feeding plan to help Fiddler gain weight. Days went by, and Fiddler’s eyes began glowing again.
“Fiddler is doing so well,” the representative said. “He has gained weight, looks healthier and is full of playful energy.”
Today, Fiddler is a completely different dog.
“He is a typical silly puppy — tall, lanky, awkward and endlessly charming,” the representative said. “Fiddler loves playing with other dogs, soaking up attention and bouncing around with a goofy joy that’s contagious.”
Now, Fiddler is looking for his permanent family. He’s hoping to find someone who’s not allergic to his fluffy coat and who’d be excited to keep him groomed on a regular basis.
“Fiddler would thrive with an active, patient family willing to work on training and provide structure,” the representative said. “A home with another friendly dog could be a great match.”
Rescuers are confident that Fiddler will meet his person soon.
“After everything he has been through, he deserves a life of happiness, love and comfort,” the representative said. “Fiddler has a bright spirit, and we are honored to find him the perfect match!”
