A puppy named Chowder is now in safe hands after being rescued by Stray Rescue of St. Louis. The rescue team was alerted by a concerned resident who found the young dog amidst a pile of trash left by neighbors.
Unfortunately, someone had believed the puppy belonged in such a place.
Upon rescuing Chowder, the team noticed several injuries, including wounds on his face and eyes. Despite these challenges, Chowder’s spirit remained vibrant and cheerful.
Stray Rescue shared updates on their Facebook page, assuring followers that the puppy was now secure and receiving care.
Donna, one of the rescuers, approached Chowder, who wagged his tail and allowed her to lift him into her arms. The same caller who reported Chowder’s situation informed the team that some neighborhood individuals are involved in dog fighting.
It’s believed that Chowder, sadly, may have been used as a bait dog in these illegal activities.
As soon as Chowder was placed in the rescue vehicle, he nuzzled into a rescuer’s shoulder, seeking comfort. “He rested his face against us during his ride to freedom,” the organization noted.
“It’s heartbreaking to think of anyone mistreating him. We are incredibly thankful to those who stepped up to help him.”
In reaction to Chowder’s story and photos shared online, a supporter of Stray Rescue commented, “It looks like he’s letting go of his sadness onto someone who will heal him. It’s truly touching.”
With a promising future ahead, Chowder is on the path to healing. Once he recovers, he will be ready to find a loving permanent home, where he can live the happy life he deserves.
