Two small puppies curled up tightly, shivering in the relentless cold rain, trying to find warmth and comfort in each other’s embrace. I couldn’t bear to leave them exposed to the harsh elements.
With gentle care, I brought them to the shelter of my balcony, hoping their mother would come looking for them soon. I watched and waited, worried about their future.
Eventually, their mother arrived—cautious and elusive, she peeked around before slipping back into the shadows. Wanting to reunite the family, I enlisted a friend’s help, and together, we managed to capture her.
I named the mother dog Vaniyam. She was a survivor, struggling every day to find food on the streets for herself and her puppies.

Jadu and Hetal, the puppies, were visibly undernourished. Their small bellies were distended from hunger, and fear shone from their eyes. Despite our attempts to provide comfort, they remained wary, often hiding from us.
Our first priority was to provide medical treatment. Jadu, displaying fear through aggression, growled and snapped, making her difficult to handle.
Hetal, however, was more trusting and accepted our care with less resistance. Treating them separately increased their anxiety, as they did not yet understand our intentions were to help them.
Over the following days, their health gradually improved. The scabies that covered them began to heal, and their connection with their mother remained strong.

After they completed their treatments, we reunited them, although their hesitance lingered—a reminder of the adversities they had faced on the streets.
As time passed, the family’s fear began to fade. Vaniyam, once guarded and defensive, started embracing a new way of life. Her puppies, Jadu and Hetal, began to trust again and grew more confident with each passing day.
They eventually found loving homes where they would be treasured. Vaniyam, too, flourished in an environment filled with joy and trust.

Their journey from scared street dogs to cherished family pets highlights the impact of love, patience, and resilience. Witnessing their transformation and new beginnings was profoundly fulfilling.
This narrative, although rooted in struggle, is ultimately a story of hope and renewal. Thank you for sharing this experience with me. May it inspire us all to practice compassion. Until next time.
