Army veteran grandmother stops passenger from storming Delta cockpit

Nicole Pruitt, an Army veteran and grandmother, stopped a passenger from apparently trying to repeatedly enter the cockpit on a Delta Airlines plane last week.

“I felt like my life was in danger,” Pruitt said.

Pruitt was on Delta flight 937 from Atlanta to Tucson, Arizona last week when she said she noticed a woman repeatedly trying to enter the plane’s cockpit.

“So, I got her down on the ground. It wasn’t hard to do because I think she wasn’t even expecting it. And at that moment, I told the flight attendants, I said, ‘Could you please get some restraints for her?’ She was very strong, but my determination was even stronger,” Pruitt said.

Pruitt said her military training was crucial to deescalating the situation.

“I knew that I had to take care of myself at the end of the day,” she said.

The flight turned back to Atlanta before it took off again for Tucson.

The FAA confirmed the woman on board was suffering from a medical emergency.

“Delta sincerely appreciates the actions of our crew and customers for deescalating this situation. We apologize to our customers for the delay and thank them for their understanding,” Delta said in a statement.

The flight had 180 passengers on board and ended up making it safely to Arizona. No one was injured.

As of now, the woman is not facing any charges.
