North Dakota Reports Surge in Missing Children and Teenagers, Raising Alarm Among Authorities and Advocates
In just over two weeks, North Dakota has recorded an unusually high number of missing children and teenagers, sparking concern among law enforcement and community advocates. Nearly a dozen minors have vanished since late July, with many cases still unresolved.
According to the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office missing persons registry, 12 juveniles were reported missing between the end of July and mid-August. As of August 17, nine of them remained unaccounted for, PEOPLE reported. The most recent cases were officially logged that same day.
While missing children’s cases occur across the United States, experts stress that it is rare to see so many clustered in a single state—especially in a smaller state like North Dakota. Authorities maintain there is currently no evidence the cases are connected, but they have acknowledged that the surge is “concerning.”
