Swinger Couple Behind Exclusive Club Reveal Why They Won’t Allow ‘Ugly’ People To Join

A couple who openly embrace a sex-positive lifestyle have launched a swingers’ club of their own, but they’ve made headlines after admitting they don’t allow people they consider ‘unattractive’ to join.

For many couples, the idea of sharing partners is becoming less taboo and more of a trend, with some even claiming that so-called ‘hotwifing’ has helped them save or strengthen their relationships.

Although this lifestyle may still seem unusual to some, interest in swinging has been growing steadily. There are now entire festivals and vacation resorts dedicated to it, giving couples a place to explore and connect with others in the same scene.

Tanya and Ashley Marum, who tied the knot back in 2019, eventually ventured into swinging together. Their journey was even featured on the Channel 4 series Open House: The Great Sex Experiment.

The couple explained that part of their motivation was exploring Tanya’s bisexuality, which led them to try swinging only a few months into their marriage. What started as curiosity soon became their full-time lifestyle, and now they even run their own events company where applicants must go through an online process.

But there’s one clear requirement—only those they view as attractive are allowed through the doors of their club.

Tanya, who is from Leeds, explained: “It’s just such an accepting community of people. It’s fun and it’s not all just about sex that people imagine.”

“We’ve made some really good friends through the lifestyle and it’s brought me and Ash closer together. Some couples say they can talk about anything but I don’t believe they can.”

“There’s always something you don’t really want to say to your partner but I can ask Ash anything. Obviously jealousy is a natural feeling but it’s how you go about it and how you act on those feelings.”

“The trust and the love and the foundation is already there for us so we don’t get jealous in a bad way.”

It may sound contradictory to describe the swinging scene as “accepting” while still enforcing looks-based rules, but Ashley insists there’s a reason behind their strict vetting process.

He said: “It’s one of the best decisions we’ve made and [our sex life] is better than ever. We’ve made businesses out of it and it’s become our sole life now. It offers a new hobby for us, which is always fun.”

“When we found it hard to consistently meet people that are our age or that we like we messaged people on a website and we said ‘why don’t we all meet in town for a drink’. We liked it so much that we said ‘let’s do it again next month’.”

“Now we have events with 300 plus people going and we make people apply on the website so we know what they look like. I don’t want people there who the majority would think are unattractive.”

“We want to try to get people to come that they might not be your type but they’re nice looking and take care of themselves.”

Whether people agree with their approach or not, most couples who live this lifestyle say it has improved their relationships and made them closer, which they believe is better than secrecy or infidelity.

Tanya added: “I think it’s strengthened our relationship emotionally and sexually. We can talk to each other so freely and we’re so open about our own bodies as well. It’s just improved everything.”
