Tom Cruise is currently enjoying the success of his latest film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, earning praise from both fans and critics. But despite the professional acclaim, the actor has come under fire online following a recent comment that many saw as a blatant dismissal of his daughter, Suri.
Cruise, 62, is a father to three children: Isabella (32) and Connor (30), whom he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, and Suri (19), his biological daughter from his relationship with Katie Holmes. While he occasionally sees his older children, Cruise has been estranged from Suri for years.
During the Mission: Impossible premiere in Cannes, a journalist from E! News asked the actor how he planned to spend Father’s Day. Cruise’s response shocked many:

“You know… I’m just going to enjoy myself, man,” he said with a smile.
Fans were stunned that he didn’t mention any of his children. Instead, he described his ideal Father’s Day as being filled with filmmaking and adventure:
“I want to make movies, go on big adventures, have fun.”

This sparked a wave of criticism on social media:
-
“Maybe he should try seeing Suri, the daughter he abandoned a decade ago?”
-
“Making movies? That’s not what being a dad is about.”
-
“A simple question about Father’s Day and he can’t even answer it? It’s like the only thing he can talk about now is films.”
-
“He’s forgotten his own children.”
Suri was born in 2006 during Cruise’s marriage to Katie Holmes. After their 2012 divorce, Holmes was granted full custody, and Cruise has reportedly not seen Suri since 2013. Many believe his deep involvement with the Church of Scientology, from which Holmes distanced herself and their daughter after the split, is the main reason for the estrangement.
Under Scientology beliefs, some speculate that Suri may now be considered a “suppressive person,” making her an unwelcome part of Cruise’s life.
