Texas mom searching for answers after college student attends football game then is found dead

A mother has been left desperately searching for answers after her daughter was found dead following a football game.

Brianna Aguilera, a 19-year-old student at Texas A&M University, was tragically found dead outside an apartment complex at around 1AM on Saturday morning, hours after she’d attended a tailgate for the college’s game against the University of Texas, KSAT reported.

Her mother, Stephanie Rodriguez, told the outlet that she is desperate for answers to what caused her daughter’s death, claiming she’d received inconsistent answers from the Austin Police Department.

She says investigators told her that Aguilera had likely taken her own life, having allegedly fallen from 17 floors up.

Rodriguez said: “There are a lot of inconsistencies with the story. He [the investigator] told me they said she jumped, and then he told me that the friends said they didn’t know her whereabouts.”

She also says her daughter, who was a sophomore at the university, was not suicidal and had been looking forward to her future and qualifying as a lawyer.

Rodriguez had phoned the police after Aguilera failed to answer the phone after the game ended, and says she saw her phone’s location pinging in Austin.

Police told the distraught mother to wait 24 hours before filing a missing persons report, per the outlet, and officers later found Aguilera’s cellphone on Saturday.

Rodriguez says she was not told her daughter was dead until 4PM that day, and believes foul play could have been involved in the fatal fall, and that one of the 15 people that were inside the apartment at the time must know something about her daughter’s death.

Rodriguez said: “There was a fight that happened between my daughter and another girl, and they were all staying in the same apartment that I have actual text messages of, and the detective just disregarded them.”

The outlet says Austin police are not investigating Aguilera’s death as a homicide and have not found any suspicious details during the investigation thus far.

Aguilera’s cause of death is set to be determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The young woman had attended United High School in Laredo, where she was a “seasoned cheerleader” and received Magna Cum Laude honors before graduating high school, according to a GoFundMe, which has raised over $31,000 of its $12,000 goal for her family.

The statement added: “She was pursuing her dream of becoming a lawyer and was attending The Bush School of Government & Public Service at Texas A&M.

“The details surrounding what happened next remain unclear, and her mother is still awaiting answers,” the fundraiser continued.

Rodriguez said in a message to those that had donated: “Im so grateful for your love and support at this moment. The unexpected loss of my brie brie has been a tremendous challenge, but I find strength in the outpouring of kindness.

“I’ve experienced every parent’s worst fear, but I’m comforted by the knowledge that my brie brie touched so many hearts.”

Texas A&M University is yet to comment.
