Christina Applegate was hospitalized in late March. The star actress has been diagnosed with MS for about four years. Now, new details of her hospitalization have come to light, and it has left her loved ones terrified.
In 2021, beloved actress Christina Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, also known as MS. Per the Mayo Clinic, MS is a disease that “causes breakdown of the protective covering of nerves. Multiple sclerosis can cause numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes and other symptoms. It’s also known as MS.”
The immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers, known as myelin. Further, this interrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage of the nerve fibers.
As ot foday, there is no cure for MS. However, there are treatments that can help speed recovery from attacks or manage symptoms midway through the course of the disease. Symptoms differ from person to person and depend on the location where the damage has broken out in the nervous system or nerve fibers.
At the time, the Married.. With Children actress was diagnosed with MS, she said, “Hi, friends. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a–hole blocks it.”
Christina Applegate’s loved one’s ‘terrified’
Ever since Applegate went public with her diagnosis, the 54-year-old has been very vocal and candid about talking about it. Christina has described how even basic movements are overwhelming as her body doesn’t function the same way it used to.
While MS changed her life forever, Christina Applegate went through serious health challenges in the past. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and underwent a double mastectomy. Moreover, in 2017, she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed to reduce her cancer risk.
Sadly, Applegate was hospitalized in late March. While she has been hospitalized before in connection ot MS, this time was different. Sources close to the actress told the Daily Mail that her friends are fearing for the worst as “hellish” details are being revealed.
“With every setback, if we are being realistic, everyone has it in the back of their minds that they might not have a tomorrow with her,” a source told the Daily Mail on Friday.
Details of hospitalization
“Christina is a fighter, but her battle with MS has been treacherous. She has better days and really bad days; she doesn’t have great days. She’s always dealing with something. It sucks.”
The insider continued: “But when she does look at things positively it makes her feel better in the moment because she has so many friends that are there for her, even to listen to her, cry with her and anything in between.”
At the moment, it remains unknown if the reason behind her extended hospital visit has to do with her autoimmune disease. A rep for Christina Applegate told Page Six, “I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She has had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”
