HAMMONTON—What began as a heartfelt idea has grown into a meaningful community tradition, as the Hammonton Police Department hosted its sixth annual Seany Shoe Hands 5K and 1-mile fun walk in support of children with autism and cognitive disabilities.

The event traces its origins back to 2019, when Lieutenant Sean Grasso approached Chief Kevin Friel with the idea of organizing a 5K centered on autism awareness. Friel immediately supported the concept, helping launch what has become a steadily expanding fundraiser that now includes both a competitive race and a more casual, family-friendly walk.
