Authorities in Florence County have charged multiple Myrtle Beach teens in connection with the June 24, 2025 death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright following a late-night dispute in Johnsonville. Nine individuals are currently involved in the case, with one more expected to surrender soon.
Investigators believe the teens acted together and are treating them as accomplices under South Carolina law. Among those charged is 19-year-old Devan R., arrested the day after the incident. Others involved range in age from 17 to 18, with some released on bond while others await court dates in detention. Four additional suspects, including juveniles, have not had their roles publicly detailed. Wright, a student-athlete at Johnsonville High School who played football and baseball, is remembered by friends and family as kind, bright, and full of joy. A celebration of life was held on July 3, and a fundraiser raised over $6,000 to cover funeral expenses. Sheriff TJ Joye described the tragedy as “senseless,” attributing it to personal conflicts. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a young life, honoring Wright’s memory as someone who brought light and laughter to all who knew him.
